It is an interesting software system that is better than Sneakernet and Excel. I have seen a lot of in-house-built systems using Excel and MS Access that do not integrate with machining systems and still rely on sneakernet to start jobs. I write integration systems because the price tag on some of these more advanced systems is just out of reach for smaller shops. A system should grow with a company, and what they have today, with three workstations, can scale up to tomorrow with several machining lines. One thing I hear about from many companies as a recurring theme is. "We do not want to be held hostage by the software." at the end of the day, when you're spending more on the computers and software than actually getting products out the door, you're being taken advantage of.
