"Juneteenth a hallmark of racial progress -- and at the same time, it epitomizes progress delayed and denied. "-Marie Beecham As we celebrate today, we should also be looking ahead to ensure we are uplifting the voices who aren't usually heard. As Marie mentioned in her post, "Juneteenth teaches us something about victory and struggle; finished work and unfinished work'; triumphs and trials... we celebrate every step of progress that's made along the way." - uhm mic drop?! 🎤 This can be said for a lot of our work in Canada as well. Let's keep moving forward together, not forgetting the past, but rather using the past to fuel our fire for supporting better experiences for all people. ✊🏽 Preparing for Black History Month UK: Reflecting on the Past, Celebrating the Present, Saluting Our Sisters ✊🏽 The weekend is approaching, and this weekend i will spend it recharging in preparation for what's to come in October, a month for some that is just a month, but for me and many like me it's a month of celebrating our true selves and also revisiting past traumas. As Black History Month UK approaches, it is important to take the time to recharge and reflect on the past, while also celebrating the present. This annual observance provides an opportunity to honour the achievements and contributions of Black individuals throughout history, as well as to raise awareness about the ongoing fight for equality and justice. During this month, it is essential to engage in meaningful conversations, educate yourself about the rich history and cultural heritage of the Black community, and support Black-owned businesses and organizations. By doing so, we can actively contribute to the dismantling of systemic racism and work towards a more inclusive and equitable society. For some this weekend can involve various activities, such as reading books by Black authors, watching documentaries or films that highlight Black experiences, or simply taking the time to reflect on the progress that has been made and the work that still needs to be done. If you're in a work or social environment will Black people please do this prep, and don't expect us to teach you, it's draining and can be triggering. During the month let's use this time to amplify Black voices, promote diversity and inclusion, and foster a sense of unity and understanding. Together, we can create positive change and ensure that Black History Month is not just a month-long celebration, but a catalyst for lasting transformation. I will during the course of the month share more info around the theme for this year 'Saluting Our Sisters'. Luckily for me EAFC has launched today so that will be my recharge this weekend!! Well done again EA Team 🕹⚽ Holly Johns Sola Kasali #BlackHistoryMonthUK #celebration #reflection #FC24
