Can the height of the pillars in an existing building be increased? The video shows the use of a technology based on chain pulley blocks, to lift a metal structure, increase the height of the building by inserting an extension into the existing pillars. The chain pulley blocks, manual or electric, are fixed to the existing pillars which are cut and lifted gradually and simultaneously in a synchronous manner. The operation is very delicate and must be carried out with the utmost caution under the supervision of highly qualified engineers. Once the lifting has taken place, the elements that extend the pillars are inserted, which must be correctly assembled and connected to the existing structures. It is always necessary to verify the new configuration of the entire structure because the different dimensions may lead to the need to integrate the existing structures, in particular in the connection nodes between the different elements of the structure. It is clear that a modification of this type involves an increase in stress, which must be evaluated very carefully. The answer therefore is: yes, it is possible but you must take all the necessary precautions, both in the transitional phases and in the final configuration, evaluating case by case whether it is really worth it because the costs could be prohibitive.
