Supporting those with behavioral health needs starts with reducing barriers preventing people from accessing care. In many cases, effective organizations operate in a way that fosters collaboration between different experts, to create evidence-based outcomes that are proven to be effective. Caring for others many times means being honest with them and meeting them where they’re at. #BehavioralHealth #MentalHealth

Couldn’t join us for our recent conversation on behavioral health in San Francisco? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s the most important takeaways from PRC leaders and the statewide coalition of social rehab agencies: ✅ There’s more energy and political will around behavioral health in halls of power across California than ever before. Just last year, there were more than 300 bills introduced on behavioral health, shattering levels from previous legislative sessions. That enthusiasm for solutions is in and of itself, a good thing. ✅ It’s important to keep conversations around public health and criminality separate. Unfortunately, we’re seeing these conversations conflated. People who use drugs aren’t universally experiencing homelessness. People without homes aren’t universally using drugs or living with mental illness. We should reject language that says otherwise. We need to prioritize getting people into treatment, because it’s proven to work. ✅ Ensuring that everyone has the behavioral healthcare they deserve isn’t the responsibility of the government or one stakeholder. It will take all of us, government leaders, public and private health sector, nonprofits and philanthropy, and the community, working together to get more people housed and more people in treatment. Ready to be a part of the solution? Share this post and video with your community. Sign up for our newsletter in our bio to stay up to date on the latest developments in the PRC community.

Biden-Harris Administration Announces $46.8 Million in Behavioral Health Funding Opportunities to advance President Biden’s Unity Agenda as Part of May Mental Health Awareness Month | Today,[May 8, 2024) the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), announced $46.8 million in notices of funding opportunities to promote youth mental health, grow the behavioral health workforce, improve access to culturally competent behavioral care across the country, and strengthen peer recovery and recovery support. President Biden made tackling the mental health crisis and beating the opioid epidemic key pillars in his Unity Agenda for the nation. Today’s announcement will help communities transform how they address behavioral health. [US Dept of Human Health & Services and KFF] This critical funding supports the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to address the mental health and overdose crises, as well as furthers HHS’s Overdose Prevention Strategy. The grants additionally fuel each of SAMHSA’s strategic priorities for the agency: preventing substance use and overdose, enhancing access to suicide prevention and mental health services, promoting resilience and emotional health for children, youth, and families, integrating behavioral and physical health care, and strengthening the behavioral health workforce. Bend Health’s latest research study published in JMIR Publications highlights the positive impact of Bend’s digital mental health care on disordered eating symptoms among adolescents. The study analyzed data from 392 youth ages six to 17 who participated in Bend’s virtual behavioral health coaching only for at least three months. This research comes at a crucial time as we’ve seen eating disorders among teen girls more than doubled during the pandemic (https://lnkd.in/gzDursiK), worsening an existing critical public health issue and adding an estimated annual economic burden of $70 billion for families and hospitals (https://lnkd.in/gkzGuA_G). I’m proud to be a part of the work Bend is doing to combat this crisis and foster happier, healthier kids as well as resilient families.
