Creative Project Management | Creating Engaging and Immersive Productions | Bringing Stories to Life on Screen and VR Spaces
As a production coordinator immersed in the world of commercial shoots, I orchestrate the meticulous planning and execution behind every frame. From pre-production logistics to on-set coordination, here's a glimpse into the dynamic world of shooting commercials: Pre-Production Prowess: Crafting the blueprint for the shoot involves scouting locations, coordinating talent, and aligning with the director's vision while navigating budget constraints and logistical challenges. Logistical Mastery: On shoot days, I ensure a seamless flow of resources by coordinating equipment rentals, securing permits, and anticipating potential setbacks with contingency plans. Team Collaboration: Success hinges on collaborative efforts, where clear communication and efficient workflow among directors, cinematographers, and crew members bring concepts to life. Attention to Detail: Every frame counts in commercials, requiring meticulous curation of lighting, props, and elements to convey the desired message and emotion. Adaptability in Action: Flexibility is crucial in navigating unpredictable circumstances like weather changes, script revisions, or equipment malfunctions, ensuring smooth production. The Thrill of the Final Product: Despite challenges, witnessing the transformation from concept to the finished commercial is immensely rewarding, showcasing the collective dedication of the team. Shooting commercials demands creativity, organization, and adaptability, and I thrive in orchestrating these elements to deliver compelling narratives that resonate with audiences. #CommercialProduction #ProductionCoordinator #BehindTheScenes

Filmmaker with 20+ years in digital media | Sharing insider industry knowledge | Helping creators streamline their content production to boost income and save time.
Creative Labor jobs are crapshoots. Maybe you’re one of the lucky few who carve out the “perfect” situation for yourself but that isn’t the majority. What is a “creative labor” job? Think Photographer, Graphic Designer, Cinematographer, Sound Engineer, Session Musician. The list goes on. REAL STORY: I have a friend who is the cinematographer on a VERY high budget show on a VERY huge streaming platform. He gets paid a lot of money per week to go film a show you all know. He travels the world, with his family, all expenses paid, for a year at a time. Works with huge directors, actors, you name it. I’ve been in the film world a long time and he is the ONLY person out of hundreds I’ve met, that has this hooked up situation. Everyone else is more or less struggling in some aspect regularly. Creative Labor jobs are slowly fading into the ether. Bet on yourself. Build your own leverage. Take your skills and capitalize on them in a different way. Or get left behind.

How much does it cost to do a photo / video shoot? I get this question all the time and it all comes back to these 3 components: - Scope / Deliverables - Production Quality - Resources We can do shoots on a budget for $5-10K and at the same time, we do projects that are $100k+ (and beyond). Here are the key factors that make a difference in the budget: - Pre Production Timing: This is all dependent on the level of production and the budget to product the shoot. - Deliverables: What are the clearly defined deliverables for the shoot? Is it 5 variations of a 90-second commercial? Are you shooting 50 different products for Ecomm Shots that need 7 selects each? Always Start with the deliverables that are needed. - Production Talent (Photographers, DP, Videographer, Art Director, Creative Director, Producer, Hair/Makeup, Grips, Production Coordinator, Production Crew, Lighting techs, Audio Tech, Camera Tech, Production Assistant). - On-camera Talent: How many talent will you be shooting? What's their pay structure? (Day rate or base + usages royalties) - Location: This can be as simple as a studio rental to full homes/specialty locations (like beaches). - Props: This can be as simple as a few hundred dollar budgets for simple props to as complex as bringing in cars, specialty wardrobes, boats, custom sets, etc.... - Production Equipment: What type of cameras are you shooting with? It can be as simple as 1 camera with a videographer to a full camera crew with grip trucks. - Permits: if you plan to have a full crew, you are most likely going to have to pull permits - Insurance: Any shoot will need an insurance cert pulled to cover the production. This will be required by venues/equipment rentals/vendors.

Want to ensure your next shoot goes off without a hitch? It all starts with a solid plan! One crucial aspect is allowing enough time for the shoot itself ⏱️ There's no point trying to rush through everything in one hour, as this will lead to subpar results that won't make anyone happy. Always allow for the shoot to be a bit longer than you think, as this will give everyone the time needed to create quality content and work more effectively! Next, consider who needs to be involved. Are there: - Models? - Interviewees? - Staff members? By properly planning the shoot, everyone knows when they're needed and can contribute effectively. Next, think about the number of locations involved 📍 Multiple locations can impact how the videographer packs their gear and whether they’ll need extra hands to help move it. Considering these logistics upfront can save you time and hassle on the day. Finally, once the recording schedule is set and you know when people will arrive, work backward with the videographer to determine their arrival time. This ensures they are set up and ready before anyone else arrives, preventing delays and keeping the shoot on track. Planning ahead is the key to a successful shoot! 💪 #VideoProduction #Videographer #ContentCreation #ShootPlanning

PHOTOJOURNALIST Please stop using this term to look for video or AV(audio video) Journalists. If its not a position that requires 70% or more still images then its not a PHOTOjournalist position. I take exception to this, because it requires different thinking, different preparation, different response and one job typically imposes more on the subject matter than the other. Stop muddying the waters. Hire truthfully. #jobdescription #stills #journalism #video #fieldrecording #photographer #photography #hr #management #hiring #hiringpractices #video #videographer #videojournalist #videography

You Better Recognize! A talented supervisor or manager is astute enough to understand that an employee is not defined by his or her job title/description. I once worked at a film production company where I was promoted three times in six months. I started out answering phones and making coffee and was soon the Visual Effects Coordinator for the biggest budget IMAX film to that date. Why? Because the producer (who went on to found RealD 3-D) could see that my skills of working hard, doing things quickly and always saying ‘yes’ to what I was asked would translate into the 60+ hours per week on a film set. How could a ‘receptionist’ become an integral part of a multi-million dollar production? How could a production assistant for a home shopping network become the Operations Director of the network in less than a year? Yep… same guy. Thanks to supervisors, managers, executives and corporate presidents who could all assess talent and not be confined by a title. So, hiring managers… take a closer look at that resume from the person that doesn’t have the exact qualifications or job title you’re looking for. Dig deeper. Look for qualities, talents and skills rather than a direct 1:1 correlation. A more well-rounded candidate might just be available.
