Alarm rationalization. It is a critical element of an organizations Alarm Philosophy. A systematic way of reviewing, justifying, and documenting alarm output and what criteria determine a specific alarm. Ultimately, a plant will then be able to more easily understand the total number of alarms on a given asset over a set period of time. By further understanding cause, consequence, and corrective action needed for a given alarm, rationalization is used to guide an operators action.
