The flue gas speed determined by the technical and economic comparison of metal consumption and operating power consumption is called the most economical flue gas speed. For fuels with more ash, the optimum flue gas speed selected according to the wear conditions is lower than the most economical flue gas speed, while for fuels without ash or with less ash, the optimum flue gas speed can be determined according to the most economical flue gas speed.The minimum smoke velocity of convection heating surface is: the smoke velocity of transverse flushing heating surface is not less than 6m/s, and the smoke velocity of longitudinal flushing heating surface is not less than 8 m/s, according to the limit of ash deposition conditions.

The gas temperature at outlet of APH (Exit Temperature) happens to be the most critical parameter to monitor and control to ensure performance of a boiler system as it affects five out of total nine heat losses from the system. But this is also the parameter which varies with change in load as well as quality of fuel (particularly when coal is used as fuel). And as a result, on a number of occasions, it remains undetected when the exit temperature has actually increased due to some problems in the system and causes huge loss.
