Did you know that floating #LNG terminals increase climate and security risks - while extending a reliance on #FossilFuels and hindering the transition to #RenewableEnergy? New report by Solutions for Our Climate (기후솔루션) finds #LNG expansion through Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRUs) in #Europe and #Asia hinders #climate goals and misses the mark on energy security. Lawmakers in Maryland have filed the "WARMTH bill" that proposes the implementation of pilot networked geothermal heating projects ♨️ across underserved communities in the state of Maryland. 🙌 House Bill 397, or the Working for Accessible Renewable Maryland Thermal Heat (WARMTH ACT), was introduced by Del. Lorig Charkoudian (D-Montgomery) and cross-filed by Sen. Katie Fry Hester (D-Howard and Montgromery). The WARMTH bill is also line with the Climate Solutions Act of 2022, a state mandate to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2031 and attain net-zero emissions by 2045. 🌎 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dixqavn8 #US #Maryland #Geothermal #GeothermalDevelopment #Decarbonization #Legislation

None of the big oil and gas producers surrounding the North Sea plan to stop drilling soon enough to meet the 1.5C (2.7F) global heating target, a report has found. The five countries – the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Denmark – have failed to align their oil and gas policies with their climate promises under the Paris agreement, according to the campaign group Oil Change International. North Sea governments must act urgently, said Silje Ask Lundberg from Oil Change International, who co-wrote the report. “Failure to address these issues not only undermines international climate goals, but also jeopardises the liveability of our planet.” https://lnkd.in/eQKDV_fN #fossilfuel #northsea #oil #climate #goals #zerobees

In what can only be described as a 'failure of climate leadership', Origin Energy and the NSW Government have confirmed the extension of Eraring, Australia's largest coal-fired power station, to August 2027. The science is clear: every tonne of coal burned pushes us closer to climate disaster. Keeping the coal fires burning at Eraring sends the wrong message when urgent action is needed to fight the climate crisis. Governments must now throw everything at accelerating the shift to renewable energy sources like wind and solar. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gtpjwTFr

Responding to the climate crisis is an opportunity to restore Traditional Owner groups to their rightful positions as decision-makers for Country. Traditional Owner groups have cared for and managed Country for thousands of generations. Their knowledge and expertise can meet the challenges of a rapidly warming and increasingly volatile climate – and the transition to clean energy sources can achieve the economic independence so important for self-determination. The Federation facilitates opportunities for Traditional Owner groups to be involved and respected in climate change mitigation and adaptation activities. This includes activities like getting everyone on the same page with the Traditional Owner Renewable Energy Forum, and a new piece of work supporting Traditional Owner involvement in the $77 million BushBank reforestation program. We also contribute Traditional Owner perspectives to government inquiries on topics like the nature repair market, renewable energy infrastructure, and storing greenhouse gases. #news Is it a surprise that disinformation on the death of whales along our Jersey shore was funded by ... wait for it ... the fossil fuel industry? Thanks to the students and faculty at Brown University, we have a report that links them. "A month ago, we reported on how opponents to solar farms who appear to be local are actually supported by national organizations with one mission — protecting fossil fuels. You might ask yourself why anyone would want to protect fossil fuel companies when their activities have altered the Earth’s climate. They threaten to interrupt the flow of the Gulf Stream, melt the polar ice caps, and bring drought and flooding to many parts of the world. A new study from Brown University shows in graphic detail how similar linkages exist between opponents of offshore wind and captive fossil fuel apologists at the national level." https://lnkd.in/eQjgFfTn

Society is facing extremely complex issues as we work to mitigate and adapt to climate change. States are setting decarbonization goals and anticipate offshore wind will be a significant component in achieving those goals. I believe that robust public processes bring better solutions to these complex issues. BOEM worked hard over the past couple years to create a more public process in the Gulf of Maine. There are many more steps in the process of siting offshore wind, and it is to our collective benefit for us all to bring our voices and solutions into the process. https://lnkd.in/euCXdE_z
