It's a beautiful day to close a project. Wait...what? If you are new here go back to last week's post on project management methodology because we have a project to close! This is the final phase of the project. We dot all the I's and cross all the T's in this stage. We gather all of the data from the project and store it in a designated location (most likely SharePoint or a shared drive...please don't save it to your desktop or even worse..on paper!). But wait...we aren't done yet. You should have a final lessons learned or reflection meeting to confirm the outcome of the project with the team and understand what went well and what we wish we knew at the start of the project that we know now. Some people call this Start-Stop-Continue. What should we start doing for the next project based on what we learned from this one. What should we stop doing for the next project and what should we continue to do. You should also do a final review of the project charter to confirm you delivered what you committed to as a team. This is also an important time to THANK the project team before they dash off to the next project. Your company and culture determine how that should be done...and it PLEASE don't forget to do this final step. Congratulations on completing your project! Need help?
