Exciting news for cardiovascular healthcare! 🌐 I'm thrilled to share that Medtronic has just launched the Avalus Ultra Bioprosthesis valve in Western Europe at the EACTS congress in Lisbon. The Avalus Ultra valve, engineered for ease of use and long-term patient management, is described as Medtronic's most advanced surgical aortic tissue valve. What's more, it brings clear visibility for TAV-in-SAV procedures and industry-leading Effective Orifice Areas (EOA), enhancing patient outcomes based on a decade of clinical experience with the Avalus valve. This launch is not just a milestone for Medtronic but a game-changer for patients and clinicians alike. The Avalus Ultra valve features a polyetheretherketone (PEEK) base frame that provides a durable foundation to maintain valve circularity, and a radiopaque coil for clear fluoroscopic visibility. The first implantation in Western Europe was successfully conducted by Professor Michael Borger and his team at the Heart Center in Leipzig, Germany. Kudos to them! 🎉 Medtronic continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation. If you're attending the EACTS congress, don't miss the presentation on the 7-year outcomes from the PERIGON Pivotal Trial for the Avalus valve. This trial is notable for being the largest prospective study of any contemporary stented surgical valve. It's fantastic to see such advancements that promise greater patient care in cardiovascular surgery. Let's keep the conversation going—share your thoughts below! #Medtech #Cardiology #HealthcareInnovation

Many testing modalities support transcatheter aortic valve replacement. The ECG, which has long proved useful in many areas of medicine, also has a key role to play in evaluating patients for these procedures, guiding management choices and providing prognostic information before patients are taken to the cath lab. #ePeeps #DCARInsights #cardiology

Monitoring #cardiothoracicsurgery to reduce pneumonia. Here are some highlights: From the discussion: Our study also revealed that IONM reduced the incidence of pneumonia. Postoperative pneumonia is the most common complication after esophagectomy, with an incidence of up to 60%. Several recent studies showed that RLNP is associated with pneumonia, and multivariate analysis showed that RLNP is the primary independent risk factor for pneumonia. (RR = 2.3–6.2). Our study supports the previous studies that IONM can reduce pneumonia by preventing RLNP. Although inconsistent with a previous meta-analysis, our results are more reliable due to the larger number of studies included and insignificant heterogeneity. A study suggests that RLNP is an independent prognostic factor for pneumonia and POHS. In addition, we found that IONM does not increase the operative time and the risk of other common complications, which reflected the feasibility of IONM. From the conclusion: Our meta-analysis demonstrated that the application of IONM during esophagectomy reduced the incidence of RLNP and pneumonia and was associated with more mediastinal and total LN dissected. In addition, IONM does not increase the incidence of aspiration, chylothorax, and anastomotic leakage and does not increase the total operative time or postoperative hospital stays. IONM should be recommended for esophagectomy. Are there any #cardiothoracic surgeons looking into IONM's use case here? #neuromonitoring #thoracicsurgery
