Explore the renowned wines that were recognized for its superior quality as early as the Napoleonic era. History: The 1855 Exposition Universelle, was one of the biggest world’s fairs held in Paris, France. During his reign, Emperor Napoleon III requested for a grand presentation of the finest Bordeaux wines, for this exposition. Further entrusting wine traders with the responsibility of ranking Bordeaux wines according to their reputation and price. This resulted in one of the most significant events in the history of wine, the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, which has largely remained untouched to this day. Classification: The wines were classified based on their quality, ranging from first to fifth growth (class/crus). Majority of the wines were red, with a total of 60 chateaus from Médoc and 1 from Pessac-Léognan, Graves. Also ranking sweet wines from Sauternes and Barsac which included 27 chateaux. The red wines classified are primarily made with Cabernet Sauvignon, resulting in well-structured, age-worthy wines with complex notes of blackcurrant, black cherries, tobacco, and herbs. In addition, sweet white wines are predominantly produced from a blend of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadet. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gcDQSSV5

My takes on this article (with the important premise that I continue to think that Champagne is the greatest wine denomination in the world): 1. Champagne keeps getting more expensive and is slowly pushing itself into a very small market segment. 2. Perhaps I'm shortsided, but I really don't understand how the Arabian Peninsula can be the knight in shining armour for luxury sparkling wines 3. New varietals in Champagne?- WOW! I really wish them success- we will know in 20 years. https://lnkd.in/d8pZ5rzC

VP of Business Development: Helping Improve Wine By-The-Glass Profitability, Guest Experience and Sustainability using the Only Reusable Package in the Wine Industry with National Availability
Has anyone else had a chance to browse the May issue of Wine Spectator? Like a lot of the wine industry, I greatly appreciate Burgundy and think the region can produce some of the most unique wines in the world. However, the exorbitant pricing and extremely limited availability of most these wines make them largely inaccessible. Don’t you think Wine Spectator could have used the 20+ pages they dedicated to Burgundy in this issue to cover something more down to earth? It’s crazy that most of the wines reviewed have less than a few hundred cases imported to the US. The wine media in general seems to follow the 80/20 rule in a perplexing way. At least 80% of what they write seems to be focused on the most expensive 20% of wines produced. It would serve the industry well to have more focus on wines within the reach of ordinary folks. Wine doesn’t have to cost a fortune to be enjoyable. By fixating so heavily on Burgundy and other luxury wines, are we perpetuating the notion that wine should be reserved for special occasions only? Or, is Wine Spectator merely catering to the preferences of their readers?

When it comes to wine there is one truism that is rather more true than all the others – Bordeaux is boss. While Burgundy might suck all the oxygen out of the room when it comes to price or prestige, Bordeaux remains the benchmark by which other wines are measured. And as the world's wine trade descends on the Médoc for Bordeaux En Primeur, what better time to take a closer look at Bordeaux's wines?

▫ Slovenian wine, though lesser-known globally, is gaining recognition for its quality and diversity. The country's #wine heritage dates back to the Celtic and Roman times, with winemaking traditions deeply rooted in its culture. ▫ #Slovenia boasts three main wine regions: Podravje, Posavje, and Primorska, each offering distinct microclimates and soil types that contribute to the unique characteristics of their wines. Primorska, bordering Italy's Friuli region, is renowned for its robust reds and aromatic whites, with varieties like Rebula, Merlot, and Malvazija. Podravje, the largest wine region, excels in producing exceptional white wines such as Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Furmint. ▫ Meanwhile, Posavje is known for its traditional Cviček, a light red blend. Slovenian vintners prioritize sustainable and #organic practices, enhancing the authenticity and natural appeal of their wines. ▫ More at www.Somm.Site.
