The Asian Field Study (AFS) Program by the University of Hawaii at Manoa - Shidler College of Business visited SOMPO Digital Lab in #Japan for the second consecutive year, to explore the insurance industry and also learn more about our digital strategy and digital business initiatives. We are happy to hear from participants that they felt inspired by how SOMPO is navigating the current and long-term trends of aging and population decline in Japan, and how new #digitaltransformation is helping. AFS is a leading global business field study program focused on the Asia-Pacific region. It involves MBA students traveling across Asia to visit companies, government agencies, and cultural sites. The program aims to prepare international students for careers and business opportunities in the dynamic Asia-Pacific region. Furthermore, it seeks to foster improved relations among countries in the region through enhanced education and communication. And we are proud to lend a hand in shaping business leaders of today and tomorrow. Learn more about AFS➡🔗https://lnkd.in/gkCkB9cW

General Manager - Strategic Partnerships I Business Development I Marine Operations & Services I Value Proposition I Taiwan/Singapore
"End of an adventure! 🎓🎉 I'm excited to announce that I've successfully completed the Accelerated Management Program at the National University of Singapore, Class of 2023 ~2024. It was a challenging yet rewarding journey, filled with late nights, early mornings, (and perhaps a few too many Zoom happy hours, that too on Friday evenings, with mostly a flight to catch back to the family on Saturday mornings), and unforgettable experiences! After taking a 15-year pause from formal education, returning to the study table was a significant personal and professional challenge. However, the experience was worth every bit! From juggling my new role in strategic partnerships, relocating to a new country, and navigating the rigorous coursework. The program helped solidify my leadership approach, equipped me with the tools to lead our team, gave me a deeper understanding of the global business landscape, how innovating and staying relevant is critical, and helped me do what I love most – solving problems! I'm grateful to my professors Michael Jenkins, Ravi Jain, Andrew Delios, Yoshi Mitsui, and Oussama LABIB for their guidance and to my peers for their support and connect. This experience has been transformative, and I'm excited to apply the knowledge and skills I've gained to drive innovation, develop effective strategies, harness the power of digital technologies, and contribute to maritime decarbonization. My improved understanding of financial metrics will also be invaluable as we navigate complex business challenges. #NUS #AMP #LeadershipDevelopment #CareerGrowth #Innovation #Strategy #Digital #MaritimeDecarbonization #BusinessDevelopment #NUSExEd

Considering an MBA? Explore the Horizon. In a recent discussion with a potential partner for VentureVista Investments. During our conversation, we discussed the pros and cons of an MBA in India versus abroad. Drawing from my own experience at one of the top international institutions, IE Business School (Madrid, Spain), here's why an MBA abroad can be a game-changer for your career. Firstly, international MBAs offer global exposure. One of the most enriching aspects of an International MBA is the diverse cultural exposure. In my cohort alone, there were individuals from about 90 different countries. This melting pot of cultures and perspectives not only broadened my worldview but also profoundly impacted my mindset, shaping me into a more adaptable and empathetic leader. Secondly, an International MBA offers unparalleled networking opportunities. The global network I've built spans across Europe, South America, North America, Asia, and Southeast Asia. This network isn't just about professional connections; it's a community I can reach out to for advice, collaboration, and support, fostering a sense of global camaraderie that is invaluable in today's interconnected world. Lastly, the opportunity to travel extensively during my MBA journey was a significant growth catalyst. Whether travelling solo or with peers, these experiences allowed me to explore new cultures, challenge my comfort zones, and develop a deeper understanding of the world. This personal growth has been instrumental in shaping my leadership style and approach to global business challenges. Ultimately, the "right" choice depends on your aspirations. Will this MBA help you reach your goals? #studyabroad #mba #ie #uditguptaca #highereducation #management

My decision to pursue an MBA in the UK taught me the incredible benefits of DELEGATION. As I entrusted tasks to my Sinhtolina team in Vietnam, they surprised me with their capabilities, accountability, and trustworthiness. With more time, I could focus on the big picture and support my team strategically, thanks to the insights gained from my MBA journey. 🧜 The Beauty of Delegation: Delegation transforms individuals and teams, fostering trust, accountability, and growth. By handing over responsibilities, my team embraced challenges, showcasing their abilities and managing tasks efficiently, even without my presence. 💪 Empowering the Team: Delegation empowered my team, enabling them to take ownership and grow. They exceeded expectations, displaying dedication and reliability that reinforced the trust we had built. 👁 Seeing the Bigger Picture: Delegation freed up time for me to think strategically. I leverage my MBA knowledge to align objectives with organisational goals, making informed decisions that contribute meaningfully. 🪴 Personal and Professional Growth: Delegation fosters personal and professional development. It expands skill sets, enhances problem-solving, and cultivates leadership qualities. My team members thrived, taking on new challenges and developing valuable skills. Delegation, as I have learned during my MBA journey, is a catalyst for success. Trusting and empowering my team led to their growth and increased productivity. I know it is easier said than done. It took me a while to delegate, and now that I am forever grateful for taking the leap, of course, with proper preparation for the transition. As I am still practising the art of delegation, I hope you will consider this strategic approach (if you haven't already) so that you can benefit from its advantages and start growing professionally and personally. 🙏 Remember to take #onestepatatime #delegation #mba #studyabroad #uk #trustintheteam

“When you have a huge home market, why not dream big and give yourself more possibilities? ” Having just returned from Europe to Asia, I had an in-depth discussion with the marketing leader of Tsinghua-INSEAD Executive MBA Programme (a dual degree programme developed by 清华大学经济管理学院 Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management and INSEAD) on a critical issue: "What kind of people and career growth are the top global EMBA programs really helping?" She mentioned several recent applicants: 1) a European pharmaceutical company's China sales director. Facing the breakthrough and fierce competition from domestically developed medicines in China, he also sees his company's medical sales in China reaching or exceeding 50% of global sales. His main concern is how to enhance strategic thinking and leadership skills to lead a larger team to face huge market opportunities. Should he stay and compete in the increasingly competitive local market, expand to the Asia-Pacific market, or even seek global positions? 2) The former China market leader of several top global social media platforms, who has now left a foreign company to join a major Chinese internet company. She struggles to adapt to the fast pace of work in private enterprises and the challenges of executive capabilities and resource boundaries. How can she truly empower Chinese companies to go global? Should she continue working for others or rely on her own professional skills and resources to run her own business? These are questions she has not carefully considered. 3) A once naive entrepreneur who, after nine years of perseverance, has grown from an unknown to one of the world's leading ESG standard setters, providing certification for many listed companies at home and abroad. His career path is quite clear, taking these standards to the world. We can see that these applicants share the common traits of hardworking, steadfastness, and a solid foundation in basic academic disciplines, having managed or currently managing sizable business units. What they need to improve are international strategic awareness, cross-cultural communication and management, and personnel management skills. Most importantly, they need to be more confident in themselves. So, a dual-degree EMBA program from Tsinghua-INSEAD Executive MBA Programme with a cross-border entity network (Paris, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, and Beijing) can help these individuals' next step in growth. 3moMany thanks to Hiroki Shibasaki and SOMPO Digital Lab Tokyo for hosting the University of Hawaii’s Asian Field Study again to an excellent lecture and active Q&A session at the SOMPO Group’s impressive Shinjuku HQ. It was a fantastic experience for UH students to learn from industry experts on how the insurance market is being impacted by changing weather patterns, an aging society, EVs and self-driving technology, globalization and many more macro forces. Seeing how SOMPO's digital initiatives and international expansion are effectively meeting these new challenges was inspiring. Mahalo! #Asian Field Study Association #Shidler College of Business
