A Force for Nature Spotlight: Shortly after moving to Sonoma County, Miles Horton, an avid hiker, runner, and birdwatcher, learned about Sonoma Land Trust and found others who shared his passion for conservation and climate change resilience. At an outing at the San Pablo Baylands where he learned about our restoration program on the bay, Miles shared that he was impressed by the Land Trust’s proactive approach to solving the dual challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss – taking bold and swift action and “paving the way” for managing lands for climate resilience. The Nature Conservancy has announced the Connectivity, Climate, and Communities Fund to support the mission of ensuring a world where people and nature thrive. In an effort to have the highest possible impact on the climate and biodiversity crises, they have launched a website for organizations to apply for grant opportunities to protect and conserve the Northeast. These programs will enable organizations, communities, and governments to achieve land protection on a larger scale than they normally would be able to. They will also allow collaboration to conserve vital wildlife habitat, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, build resilience to the impacts of climate change and generate new job and recreation opportunities. The Resilient and Connected Appalachians Grant Program—for organizations based in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine—and the New York Climate Resilience Grant Program, will provide grants of up to $50,000 to partners that are working on conservation in the Appalachian region– a stronghold of climate resilience and a vital migration pathway for species. Learn more and apply: https://buff.ly/3sUH51c Applications close February 28, 2024.

Our commitment to green practices extends beyond just plants. Through our Environmental Restoration division, we’re dedicated to saving water and supporting local ecosystems. One key area of focus is the preservation and protection of wetlands. Our restoration services play a critical role in the recovery of these vital ecosystems, which provide essential habitats for diverse species, improve water quality by filtering pollutants, and help regulate flooding by absorbing excess water. By restoring wetlands, we contribute to ecosystem health and build resilience against climate change. https://lnkd.in/gye9GeD #EnvironmentalRestoration #GothicLandscape

Today is World Wetlands Day ... Nearly 90% of the world’s wetlands have been degraded since the 1700s, and we are losing wetlands three times faster than forests. Yet, wetlands are critically important ecosystems that contribute to biodiversity, climate mitigation and adaptation, freshwater availability, world economies and more. It is urgent that we raise national and global awareness about wetlands in order to reverse their rapid loss and encourage actions to conserve and restore them. This year’s campaign spotlights how interconnected wetlands and human life are — with people drawing sustenance, inspiration and resilience from these productive ecosystems. Importantly, the theme for 2024 underscores how all aspects of human wellbeing are tied to the health of the world’s wetlands. It calls on each of us to value and steward our wetlands. Every wetland matters. Every effort counts. See https://lnkd.in/grFmSzn for more.
