#GettingToKnowSonsio: Justin McBride is our Associate Spotlight for July! What is your Sonsio story? I was contacted about an opening with Sonsio in late 2022. I was not actively looking to move companies at that time; however, I specifically recall that after interviewing with Jennifer, Bill, David, Jordy, and Lindsey I felt very positive about the culture and direction of Sonsio, and comfortable hopping aboard. After a year and a half, I am glad to report that my initial impressions have proven accurate! Who were your mentors or advocates throughout your journey? What help was most impactful? Prior to joining Sonsio, I was fortunate to have strong mentors in the actuarial community in the form of some of my superiors at Central Insurance. In addition to actuarial standards and methods, they taught me what excellence in actuarial work looks like. In my time at Sonsio, of course I’ve enjoyed similar mentorship from all those surrounding me. What is your favorite part of working on the Finance team? My favorite part of working on the Finance team, specifically, is working under Jennifer’s guidance. In my short time here, we have had some heavy challenges to overcome, and I appreciate how she has led us through those. What is something you are proud of? I tend to take pride in being enjoyable to work with. I know that actuarial discussions are not everyone’s favorite topic at times (or ever), and so I hope that I provide some color to otherwise monotonous subjects. What would your perfect weekend look like? I love spending time at my kids’ sporting events. I look forward to weekends which we have soccer/baseball/ basketball tournaments or dance recitals. They can be wild and hectic, but spending this time with my family is my greatest joy. Additionally, we’ll also spend some downtime boating, listening to live music, or attending Columbus Crew games on the weekends. #FeatureFriday
