As president and CEO of Sony Electronics for North America, Neal Manowitz knows his company will lose momentum if it doesn’t embrace all the benefits of AI. He also knows that the people he relies on for the type of creative work his company pumps out are still a little nervous about the potential for AI to steal their jobs. As he stepped into this loaded barrel of his people’s fear, he had two options: 1. He could discount their fear and tell them to either jump on board or move on. OR 2. He could lean in and listen closely. He chose #2, knowing that pulling in close and creating a continuous feedback loop was key to Sony’s success. Here’s what he had to say about it: “Through our relationship with creators, we have a vested interest in the success of this community. The relationship is symbiotic. We know each other, we talk to each other, and we come together. In class this week at #BerkeleyHaas, we delved into the remarkable Samsung turnaround story, witnessing their impressive shift from -$15B in debt to $44B in sales and $3B in profit within just 6 years! We explored the crucial concept of quality. ⭐ The question "Professor, how do you define quality?" ignited a profound discussion on the subjective and objective dimensions of quality. 🤔 From my experience working at many of the world's best brands, I know quality starts at the top and must permeate every level of the organization. ☝🏼 I also argue that quality is not purely objective, as illustrated by the complexities of defining aesthetic quality.
