📍Ever feel navigating procurement is like trying to fit square jars into round holes? Even within the same industry procurement can look totally different. 📍Adding organisational maturity and various Procure-tech tools makes it even more complex. 📍Unlike HR or accounting, procurement varies greatly org to org ❓Do you find this to be true? 📍 Over the past two weeks, I’ve spoken with many managers. Each confirmed this - changing companies means changing procurement processes, technologies, approach, maturity and internal client attitudes. 📍 As a consultant, I’ve seen it all. From just sending orders to having organised, strategic procurement with top talent and tech. Do You see the same differences? Challenges, just to name a few: Adapting to new processes - each company has its own procurement methods. Training requirements - new tools and systems require specific training. Aligning with internal clients - different attitudes and expectations. Managing change - shifting from operational to strategic roles. Maintaining consistency - ensuring process efficiency across different environments. Integrating Procure-tech - adopting and optimising new technologies in procurement. Do You agree? #procurement #procuretech

Is There a Talent Shortage in Procurement❓ During my early days in procurement, the concept was new to me. I wanted to deepen my knowledge, but there were very limited resources available and they were very basic and I didn't have access to experienced procurement professionals. Due to this lack of clarity and awareness, some even chose to pursue more well-known field. The honest and real answer to this is, yes, there is talent shortage in procurement is a real issue to be solved. While historically procurement roles have been well-established in the UK, Europe etc., the field is still evolving in many other regions. Several factors contribute to this shortage: 1. Procurement is often seen as a routine, administrative function rather than a strategic one, leading to less interest in the field. 2. Fewer educational programs leading to fewer talents entering the workforce. 3. Many certification programs are very basic and do not provide a comprehensive view of procurement. They often lack the depth needed to prepare professionals for the complexities of modern procurement. 4. Fields like finance and IT often offer more attractive career paths and compensation, drawing potential talent away from procurement. 5. There is often a lack of awareness about the strategic importance and career opportunities in procurement, resulting in fewer people entering the field. 6. The shift from process-oriented procurement to digital-oriented procurement requires new skills. 7. Understanding the full potential of procurement often requires significant self-directed learning and exploration, which can be a barrier for many. 8. Many experienced procurement professionals are nearing retirement, leading to a significant loss of expertise. ✅ Organizations can take several steps to build the talent, if the goal is to have a strong procurement leaders: 1️⃣ Highlight the strategic importance and impact of procurement to attract new talent. Share success stories and career advancement opportunities to change perceptions. 2️⃣ Co-create curricula with training providers to ensure realistic and up-to-date training to include both formal education and on-the-job learning experiences. 3️⃣ Use digital tools to automate routine tasks, allowing procurement professionals to focus on strategic activities. 4️⃣ Partner with universities and colleges to develop specialized programs in procurement and supply chain management. 5️⃣ Create a supportive and engaging work culture that values innovation, collaboration, and professional growth.
