🔹 Our Radical Movers are back from IBC! 🔹 Our Radical Movers have arrived back to the office after a very busy IBC Show! And what an IBC - International Broadcasting Convention it was. There are so many highlights, but here are just a few: The Pride event hosted by Caretta Research and sponsored by Evergent Technologies Inc., Google Cloud, and Quickplay was such an amazing success. Our very own River Williams played a big part in organising the event and it was so great to see it all come together so brilliantly. Diversity is something we are very passionate about and should be on every level possible. At Radical Moves, our team is extremely diverse and that brings so much creativity that is simply not possible without that diversity. IBC always features a number of awards so the Radical Moves team headed to a number of these, with some clients (and in one case our Managing Director Helen Weedon) making shortlists and a couple of wins including for Accedo.tv at the Bitmovin Social Hero awards and Corporate Star Awards, and for Bitmovin getting a TVBEurope Best of Show for its Live Encoder. As always, IBC was full of some insightful discussions and it was great to see many of our clients being a part of those, from cloud strategies and use cases with Veset to a use case of 'late night at the Euros' with Cinedeck, and the benefits and challenges of migrating from legacy systems with Accedo.tv. Who doesn't like a drinks event? There are always so many at the same time that it can be difficult to host but we had good turnout for both RIST Forum and Satcoms Innovation Group (SIG). The team was busier than ever, juggling media briefings and client meetings with capturing photos and videos from the event and keeping the social channels active. All our clients attending had a successful show - 7fivefive, Accedo.tv, Atheras Analytics, Bitmovin, Cinedeck, MainConcept, Open Broadcast Systems, RIST Forum, Satcoms Innovation Group (SIG), and Veset. This year our MD, Helen Weedon also brought her daughter to IBC. Sophie spent her time manning Accedo's sweet stand by the CE stage. It was nice to inspire the next generation, and even nicer to find there were a number of others who had done the same, including Tradefair's Mark Birchall, and Candice Rose-Cowan of Little Cricket PR. We are back in Wales and enjoying relative quiet before we start planning the next one. In the meantime we can't wait for #IBC2025! #IBC2024 #IBC24

ISE 2025 will be the perfect place to assess the evolution of convergence between broadcast and Pro-AV technology, a trend that has become increasingly important in recent years. A portion of Hall 4 at the show is dedicated to broadcast technology. This has been rebranded to “AV Broadcast” from “Content Production & Distribution” this year, which may signal an effort to blend broadcast technology within the AV landscape further (more on this below). Tracking this part of the exhibition over time is a good indicator of convergence progress, and particularly of which broadcast technology is finding its place in AV (and how). Some observations on the floor map changes I have noticed between 2024 and 2025 (not a perfect analysis, but still providing some valuable insights): 📍Some broadcast tech suppliers (e.g., Ross Video) have transitioned to Hall 4 this year. This could reflect a move to further centralize solutions coming from broadcast. It certainly helps navigation for buyers (and for analysts)! 🔍 Some suppliers like Blackmagic Design seem to have expanded their floor space this year. Though most seem to have kept a similar booth space as in 2024 even if the overall show is growing (see this for more info: https://lnkd.in/dvhcpf84). 🔍 There are some new suppliers exhibiting this year (e.g., Grass Valley). And there are also a few vendors that have vanished from the map in 2025. 🎥 Sectors that are particularly represented in the hall still include content acquisition and production, content infrastructure, audio and streaming. There are, of course, exceptions to this but you would classify most vendors in at least one of these segments (and not many changes here). My main takeaway from these observations is that convergence is still a trend in flux, with companies still experimenting with strategies to engage the AV market effectively. It’s no surprise that digitally-native Gen Z audiences consume 67% of content on their mobile. However, 30% of Gen Z’ers consume all of their sports content on handheld devices. This means that sports broadcasters not only need to serve up compelling content, but deliver it to Gen Z audiences in the way they want it - on mobile. My presentation delved into the intricacies of outside broadcasting, which involves transmitting live audio and video feeds from locations outside traditional studio environments. This is crucial for covering live events such as sports, concerts, festivals, and news coverage. The presentation highlighted the key components of a live broadcast setup, including OB vans, satellite uplinks, fiber links, and high-definition cameras. Then I took the audience through the challenges faced by the outside broadcast industry, one of them being the reliance on various technologies like fiber, COFDM, and public 4G/5G networks, each with its limitations. I emphasized the bandwidth limitations, infrastructure demands, and the need for mobility and flexibility in live broadcasting. The core of the presentation focused on how private 5G networks can address these challenges. Private 5G offers dedicated wireless networks with higher quality of service, better mobility, and enhanced security. Private 5G networks can provide better uplink throughput, low latency, and mobility, making them ideal for live broadcasting scenarios.
