Learning about jobs in the ski industry! For most young people in our Career Development program, this is the first job/professional experience that they've ever had. As such, it's our goal to expose participants to as many opportunities as possible. Recently our Colorado cohort visited Vail Resorts HQ to explore the numerous career paths and learn directly from people tenured within the ski industry. These kids love skiing/riding and being able to help them connect their passions to careers is what it's all about. #epicpromise

I architect learning ecosystems for the future, empowering educational and corporate entities to embrace innovation, empower people, and harness the strategic value of continuous, adaptive learning.
I needed to learn... and fast! My wife planned our family vacation - skiing at June Lake, CA. The drive was easy, the weather was perfect, and all was set up for success, except... I kept falling, and falling hard. I couldn't figure out what to fix, but I wasn't giving up on our goal of a great skiing weekend. I had some previous training and skied novice runs successfully in the past, but my skill level was painfully inadequate (my elbow still hurts). So, I signed up for a lesson. Guided practice, targeted coaching, and graduated levels of challenge, coupled with encouragement from peers, led to a much better outcome. Expert learning takes context and capacity - with these together, you get people with the will and the skill to meet or exceed performance improvement goals. Here I am at the end of my lesson, taking a pause at 10,000 ft. #expertlearning #continuousimprovement #getbackup #upskilling Image Description: A skier poses on a slope with a ski lift and mountain range in the background

Skiing shaped my career. Here are 3 lessons from the mountains that drive my professional life ⤵ I spent my childhood and teen years as an alpine ski racer, carving through the mountains and embracing the freedom of speeding down the slopes like the wind. These mountain experiences shaped my career. Here are the top 3 life lessons: 1. RESILIENCE Just as I pushed through challenging courses, I persist in finding solutions for my clients. If one approach doesn’t work, I create new ones until we succeed. 2. TEAM SPIRIT Although alpine skiing is an individual sport, success is impossible without the support of teammates and coaches. I love helping others achieve their goals and being the reliable partner in their corner, driving them to reach new heights. 3. PERSEVERANCE In skiing, you don’t give up before the finish line, no matter how tough the race gets. This same perseverance drives me to never quit on a project or a client, ensuring we cross the finish line together. The mountains, snow, and the thrill of skiing instilled in me a relentless drive and a passion for helping others achieve their best. The main takeaway? → Embrace resilience → Value your team → Persevere through challenges These principles not only lead to personal growth but also pave the way for professional success. What sport or activity from your past has shaped your professional life? #skiing #sport #resilience #perseverance #businesscoach

🎿 Honouring My Interests: A Skiing Adventure 🎿 Reflecting on my CV, I couldn't help but chuckle at one particular interest listed: skiing. My first and only ski holiday was at the age of 13. Let's just say, I quickly discovered I wasn't a natural on the slopes! Fast forward to adulthood, and my skiing adventures haven't exactly been plentiful. In fact, I've only had one other skiing experience at the Chill Factor, which was around the time I was writing my CV and so I added skiing as an interest. This half term, I decided it was time to revisit my "interest" and booked another lesson. As I strapped on my boots and tentatively navigated the slopes, I couldn't help but think: How many of us have 'interests' on our CVs that perhaps need updating? Have you ever had a similar revelation about an interest listed on your CV? 🏂 #CVConfessions #Skiing #Recruitment

A lesson in refresh training! A couple of weeks ago myself and my husband went to the Alps to enjoy winter sports, I hadn't thought to book skiing lessons as I thought it would be like riding a bike! After the first day I realized I had forgotten the skills I'd learnt and was about to put my ski's "up" and give up. After a day of feeling sorry for myself and talking through with my husband to what I could do to enjoy winter sports again and we agreed I should join skiing lessons (Who would have thought!). We booked 2 lessons and ended up having the best time away. This trip taught me to the importance of refresher training. Keep refreshing your knowledge, test what you think you know and allow yourself the opportunity to ensure important pieces of knowledge is not lost due to lack of use. If my experience can help anyone revisiting a skill or job, to attend refresher training, I can tell you, it really helped me! Attend those beginner calls, training and read those procedure documents!

Meet my new superhero... Except this time, he's a ski instructor: Darren Turner. I was trawling YouTube for skiing tips and came across his six fundamentals. And, of course, I love anyone talking about fundamentals - because we're on the same page. - Like business, he so rightly says people are looking for the 'sexy one trick' to improve their skiing - or in my case, in their business. Except there isn't one! The nearest next thing? Do the fundamentals really well - all the time. Which doesn't apply to just beginners, but builds excellent at every level. - Click the link in the comments to hear it in his own words. - And this is exactly what I do with business. I constantly revisit the fundamentals; the critical parts that have to be right. Without which, a business will struggle. When right, they're the foundations of success. And if you're into skiing, watch his videos. They've transformed my skiing in the last few days... Olympic Team... here I come! 🔥💥🚀 #fundamentals #expert #businessjetengine

Back to work today after a week skiing, and it's really got me thinking about how the trip highlighted some invaluable lessons. ⛷️ 1. Resilience: I fell over so many times attempting to take on the moguls. It's all about getting back up, learning from mistakes and trying again - just like thriving at work. 2. Adaptability: When skiing you have to adjust speed and technique based on terrain and conditions. Similarly, in the workplace, being adaptable and flexible can help us navigate unexpected challenges and changes. 3. Continuous Learning: There's always room for improvement on and off the slopes. 4. Preparation is Key: Just as we check our routes and which ski lifts we need to take, thorough preparation in the workplace helps set us up for success. Can you think of any other parallels between skiing and the workplace? #WorkplaceLessons #Skiing #ProfessionalDevelopment
