2024 has been a remarkable year for SOSV. We closed our $306 million Fund V, SOSV's largest yet, to continue our early stage leadership in deep tech for human and planetary health, and no less important our portfolio companies raised $875M in fresh capital, a strong improvement over the prior year. Fund raising for climate startups, a major focus at SOSV, was tough in 2024, and yet many of our portfolio's top wins this year were climate tech innovators, which is a powerful counter-point to anyone fretting that climate tech is "dead." As our founder and managing general partner Sean O'Sullivan stressed in October at the start of our SOSV Climate Tech Summit, the winners in climate tech offer a better product at market prices, as well as the benefit of decarbonization. Those are the common threads across for SOSV's strongest climate performers, which this year included seed rounds for Ayrton Energy (hydrogen transport and storage, $6.6M*), Cocoon (carbon capture for heavy industry, $5.4M*), and , and Xias Bio (multi-function proteins $4.0M*) and later stage rounds for Tidal Vision (chitosan solutions, $46.7M*), Prolific Machines (light-based biotech$54.6M*), unspun™ (3D apparel weaving, $32M*), Windfall Bio (methane to fertilizer, $28M*), and Avalo, Inc (crop resilience $12M*). SOSV's deep tech portfolio is also rich in wide array of health and other deep tech startups that fared well, and the standouts included Proton Intelligence (continuous blood potassium monitoring $6.95M*), Simbe Robotics (retail inventory robots, $50M*) and Ten63 Therapeutics (computational drug discovery, $15.9M), and Mesa Quantum (chip-scale quantum sensing, $4.9M*). (*Pitchbook data.) There many more powerful rounds in the works, which makes us optimistic that 2025 will be an even better year. SOSV's successes in 2024 also included completing our trifecta of facilities to host the IndieBio and HAX programs. Here's the line-up: INDIEBIO NEW YORK ⚗️🧪🧬 > IndieBio NY’s 25,000 sq ft premier lab, event and office space at 7 Penn Plaza. INDIEBIO SAN FRANCISCO ⚗️🔋🧬> IndieBio SF’s new 25,000 sq ft office in San Francisco’s Dogpatch with bio-safety, food and chem labs, as well as extensive office and event space.  HAX NEWARK  🏗️🧪⚙️> HAX’s new 35,000 sq ft office in Newark, New Jersey with analytics, chem, mech and EE labs in addition to extensive office and event space. There are dozens of startups working at all these locations today, and our teams are always looking for great founders ready to bring deep tech solutions to human and planetary health.
