When you worked at a startup, what's the most "out of my job description" thing you've had to do? Here's my story: There I was on a Saturday morning in our Santa Monica offices with my toolbox Staring at 12 boxes with unbuilt office desks in them. By the end of the day, my knuckles were bloody, I had blisters in my palms and all 12 desks were built and ready for the new hires to sit in them on Monday morning. 🎉 And I was totally cool with it. Somebody had to do it! ✅ When you work at a startup, EVERYTHING is in your job description and your title does not matter. You might think that being at a startup is a lot of fun. I can be. There is always a traid off. You traid off something to get something in return. A person buying a rolls traid off millions for that status and statement he wants to make with that car. And I learned it very soon that show them what is the traid off. For me I never sell my services they buy it. I show them all the strategy and work they need to put in and the results they can achieve as trasparent as possible and then they see the traid off - 1. They can't pay service charges than they need to do it and traid off their time and still won't be able to achieve precision for a long time. 2. They see the pricing and make sense that it's much effective than me doing it or hiring or building team to do it. I traid money for growth and hassle free execution. Simple as that.

Been getting a lot of messages from other tech founders about this, so wanted to make a post just to answer all. Here's how it went for me, hiring from Devantae Masaun's new platform DealFuel As many of you are aware, the demand for Mailsplash has been unreal - so much so, that we had to bring on a sales rep. Here was the timeline: Day 1: I spoke to Dev and told him what we needed. Day 3: Me and his team shortlisted a bunch of great candidates, his team made this incredibly easy and the platform itself made it quick for me to pick who I wanted to interview. Day 5: Most interviews took place. Day 7: Offer made to the perfect candidate. And we're onboarding him this week. Couldn't have been easier or smoother if they tried lmao. Nor did I think we'd be able to find such a perfect fit. If you're looking for sales talent, the community they're building is insane and I wouldn't look anywhere else personally.

A couple of weeks ago, I spent about six hours completing a first round video interview for a position I feel I am well qualified for. I was stoked for the opportunity. It was a blazing spotlight in a sea of blown bulbs. I assessed each question, made outlined notes on the best way to answer, rehearsed, recorded and re-recorded, attempting to fit complex answers into 3-minute long videos. It was a great experience, and I put nearly an entire day of answering these questions. I haven’t heard back. Not even a response to my follow-ups. This is not the first experience like this, and looking into the foreseeable future, it won’t be the last. I’m becoming completely exhausted of the application and interview process. Two days ago, I heard back from a cashier position I applied for out of desperation; they are looking for someone they can expect long-term commitment from. They know I can’t survive on $13 per hour. “You are overqualified.” I cannot land a great job. I cannot land a survival job. I do, however, have a gleaming 5-star review as an Instacart shopper 😑. In the meantime, savings are completely drained, my children and I are on the verge of homelessness, I’m one more missed payment away from losing my car, we’ve had our lights turned off multiple times, my credit cards are maxed out, I woke up to a -$776 insufficient funds notification from my bank this morning, and I can’t afford to have my resume printed out at Office Depot. We’ve managed to make it 10 months without a stable income, but I’m now officially standing on the line between desperation and defeat. I’ve worked with a lot of recruiters for years - if anyone knows of any customer success management positions, content marketing, ANYTHING open to transferable skills - remote or some wiggle room for relocation preferably (I’m a widow with kids who lives in a small town - an hour-long drive to Austin for work is not possible…I’ve already tried that), I am willing to bust my ass as hard as one can bust an ass. I just need a chance.
