Yesterday, the IAASB launched a new series of videos aimed at assisting stakeholders to better understand and apply the International Standard on Auditing (ISA) for Less Complex Entities (LCE’s). As a background to this, in December 2023, the IAASB published the International Standard on Auditing for Auditing of Financial Statements of Less Complex Entities, which is set to become effective for audits beginning on or after 15 December 2025. To determine if an entity qualifies as a less complex entity, auditors will need to review the criteria that is set out in the authority section of the standard. The standard for LCE is based on the International Standards on Auditing, and audits performed using this standard will still be required to obtain a reasonable level of assurance of an audit of financial statements of a less complex entity (“LCE”). The implementation of the new ISA for Less Complex Entities (LCEs) is intended to improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency of audits conducted for smaller and less complex entities, all while retaining a high standard of quality. This adoption will play a crucial role in ensuring consistent application of auditing standards to LCEs, thereby reducing the likelihood of different practices being applied across various jurisdictions. https://lnkd.in/gBh72f2x

The AUASB has released a Consultation Paper seeking public comment on the IAASB’s Exposure Draft on proposed narrow scope amendments for audits of Public Interest Entities (PIEs). The proposed revisions have two key objectives. First, they would align definitions and requirements in IAASB standards with new definitions for publicly traded and public interest entities in the IESBA Code. Second, the amendments would extend the applicability of existing differential requirements for listed entities to meet heightened stakeholder expectations regarding audits of public interest entities (PIE). In addition to the invitation to comment on the Consultation Paper, the AUASB is hosting a Virtual Roundtable on 5 March to take stakeholders through the key proposals of the IAASB ED, and to provide stakeholders an opportunity to provide feedback directly to the AUASB.
