The Educational Attainment Gap refers to the disparity between individuals from low-income backgrounds and those from more affluent ones. This translates educationally into lower academic achievements for young people from low-income backgrounds, reducing their likelihood of pursuing higher education at university and subsequently obtaining higher-paying jobs. 📪 Early Decision Overload: Everyone knows early decision (ED) is important. But how important? I would go so far as to say that it is more important, than just about anything else. According to the 2020 – 2021 Northwestern Common Data Set the university received 39,263 applications in 2020. Of those, 3,654 were #accepted and the overall acceptance rate was 9%. First if we compare the overall acceptance rate (9%) to the ED acceptance rate (25%) we can see that simply by clicking “ED”, the #applicant increases their chances by 177%. Even more notable, of the 39,263 students who applied to Northwestern, only 4,411 (11%) applied early decision. Since only 11% of the #applicant pool applied ED, these applications are very, very, valuable. Remember, the entire #Freshman class at #Northwestern is 1,901. In order to get those 1,901 students, Northwestern wants to admit as few students as possible (lower acceptance rate). The tool they use to accept as few students as possible is the #binding #ED applicant option. 🏁 In this instance, while trying to fill 1,900 seats, they filled 1,105 (58%) of them through the early decision option. Let that sink in for just one moment. At one of those most selective universities in the country (9% acceptance rate), 58% of all of their enrolled students come from only 11% of the applications. If those numbers don’t scare you out of avoiding the regular decision applicant pool … Godspeed. Get in-touch to build a #strategic ED AND RD balance of colleges: https://lnkd.in/gumed4Ui

Creatively Empowering Researchers in their Careers ● Author, speaker, trainer, coach ● Coffee loving physicist
Listened to an interesting webinar from Higher Education Policy Institute 's Nicholas Hillman and Dr Jo Saxton from UCAS prior to the upcoming results days. So many moving parts to the system where the majority of our young people enter higher education. Of interest to our household was the reform to the personal statement next year. My 17 years old's face said it all when he asked what I was listening to. 4000 characters about yourself is daunting to anyone. His brothers, who have been through this, helpfully say 'just write about the time you brought about world peace and saved the oceans from plastic'. With brothers like these ... 🙄 So although too late for this household, I think the scaffolding approach of splitting up the statement will not only be great for anxious 17 year olds but is pretty darn useful to the rest of us at career transition points: The new questions are as follows: Why do you want to study this course or subject? How have your qualifications and studies helped you to prepare for this course or subject? What else have you done to prepare outside of education, and why are these experiences useful? The latter too often gets lost when I work with researchers who are moving on. #careers #researchers #university

Through the National College Match, applicants can rank up to 15 colleges to be “matched”— or admitted early with a full, four-year Match Scholarship. There are many different strategies students use to craft their rankings list, what will yours be? Ronit started his list by focusing on opportunities in his chosen field of study. He said, "I dove deeper into the programs offered at each of these schools in relation to pre-med to see which would be the best fit. I continued to narrow down my list and would do pros and cons of each school. ... Using the pros and cons list I made of each school and all the information I learned, I ranked them based on where I personally felt I would most belong and which schools would most help me in my goal of going to med school." Applicants: Submit your Rankings Form by October 10 through the Manage page of your application portal and register for Find Your Fit events to hear directly from our college partners about life on their campus.
