Most drivers don’t know if their tyres are illegal UK drivers are putting themselves at risk of avoidable road collisions and hefty fines by not regularly checking the condition of their tyres and not knowing when a tyre becomes illegal and unsafe, research conducted by the RAC with charity TyreSafe has found.* Only 39% of drivers know that the minimum tyre tread allowed by law is 1.6mm, meaning a majority (61%) may be driving on one or more dangerous, illegal tyres which would put them at risk of being given three penalty points and fined £2,500 per tyre. And while two-thirds (66%) of respondents claimed they knew what the legal limit was, four-in-10 (41%) of this group subsequently got the figure wrong. 2 out of 5 drivers don't know the legal tread depth of their tyres. New research conducted by the RAC and the charity TyreSafe reveals that 61% of people don't know the legal tread depth - and a worrying number aren't even checking whether they are safe and legal on a regular basis. 📏 To check if your tyres are legal (1.6mm) - place a 20p coin in the main tread channels at various points in the tyre - and if you can see any part of the outer band on the coin it means the tyre could be worn. ⏰ Set a reminder on your phone each month - it'll save not only a possible three penalty points and £2,500 per tyre - but also help to keep you and your passengers safely on the road.

I Donated to @realDonaldTrump campaign on a few occasions. It's no secret I have voted for him 3 times. I keep getting these text messages. I believe we have done our part. Yet there is still work to do. Now it's our turn to ask the questions. @vivekgramaswamy Knows full well the American Truckers plight. We have been devastated by the Biden/Harris regime I believe through the FLOW INITIATIVE. Now we have a NPRM open at @FMCSA on 49cfr371.3 Broker Transparency.. Yet the proposed rules do not protect Truckers from Brokers using waivers to deregulate themselves. Or From discrimination by Brokers from requesting Transparency. The only way we have protection is to make it compulsory to submit the docs. Every load within 48 hours of delivery. And to disqualify waivers to self-deregulate from the Code of Federal Regulations. There is also a loophole that must be closed pertaining to freight forwarders. We need support. We need comments. We need these things to fix the imbalance. @SeanDuffyWI

In 2023, 4,959 people were killed or seriously injured in crashes in Great Britain involving at least one young driver. This figure includes victims of all ages, not just those travelling in a young person’s car. For over 30 years, RoadPeace, the national charity for road crash victims, has supported countless families of young drivers and passengers killed in road crashes, who have endured unimaginable pain. Introducing a graduated driving licence system could see young, novice drivers unable to carry peer-aged passengers or drive between midnight and 4am, for the first six months after passing their test, providing far greater protection for young people. This system has been in place in countries including Canada, Australia and New Zealand for years. As a result, there have been reductions of between 20% and 40% in crashes resulting in death and serious injury involving young drivers. The evidence is overwhelming. Introducing graduated driving licensing will save the lives of thousands of young people and individuals of all ages, while also preventing countless injuries nationwide.
