7 April is World Health Day, marking the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. This day highlights the importance of health for all people around the world. Today, we should pay special attention to diagnostics as a key part of maintaining our health. In 2024, the theme of World Health Day will be “My health, my right”. This is a reminder that everyone has the right to, among other things, access to quality health services, education and information, and freedom from discrimination. On this day, we encourage everyone to take care of their health and have regular check-ups to prevent the development of chronic diseases and avoid health complications. It is important to remember that taking care of our health is not only about treating diseases, but also about preventing them. Filariasis Unveiled: A Quick Guide Lymphatic filariasis, a parasitic infection, silently threatens the lives of over 882 million people across 44 countries worldwide. Its insidious nature not only impairs the lymphatic system but also inflicts severe pain, disability, and social stigma upon its victims. 🔍 Key Facts: ⬛ Prevalence: As of 2018, 51 million people were afflicted, marking a significant 74% decline since the inception of WHO's Global Programme to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis in 2000. ⬛ Preventive Measures: Fortunately, preventive chemotherapy, facilitated by the administration of safe medicine combinations on an annual basis, serves as a crucial tool in halting the spread of this debilitating disease. More than 9 billion cumulative treatments have been dispensed since 2000, demonstrating substantial progress. ⬛ Success Stories: Thanks to the successful implementation of WHO strategies, a staggering 740 million individuals no longer require preventive chemotherapy, underscoring the efficacy of concerted global efforts in combating filariasis. 💡The Path Forward: While strides have been made in curbing the prevalence of lymphatic filariasis, there remains a collective responsibility to ensure that essential care reaches those affected. 🚀Groundbreaking Heart Health Initiative at HIMSS.24!🚀 Antoine Keller, MD, FACC, FACS presented results from HeartSense's latest community screening at #HIMSS24, uncovering a higher-than-expected incidence of undiagnosed heart murmurs. This initiative not only highlights the power of technology in healthcare but also stresses the importance of health equity. 🩺 Bridging the Gap: HeartSense is revolutionizing healthcare for underserved communities by harnessing Eko's portable, AI murmur detection technology, SENSORA™. Their mission is to detect heart issues early, potentially saving lives. 🔬 Methods & Collaboration: Over 6 months, HeartSense and Eko embarked on a collaborative, cross-sectional study spanning 12 centers across Louisiana. This initiative targeted voluntary participants over the age of 50 to identify undetected structural heart diseases (SHD) using SENSORA™ in free community screenings. Individuals found with murmurs were promptly referred for further cardiac confirmation and follow-up, bridging the gap to specialized care. 📊 Impactful Results: Nearly 1 in 3 participants were flagged for structural heart disease, significantly above the national estimate.
