Using human-centered outcomes is essential for improving healthcare systems. Human-centered outcomes encompass clinical outcomes, wellbeing, and care experience, all critical objectives of a human-centered health system. Providers and patients play key roles in enabling these outcomes. Providers should deliver care with compassion, clinical excellence, and evidence-based practice, while patients should seek timely care and adhere to treatment plans developed collaboratively with their providers.  The accompanying image shows our hypothesis on how the patient behaviors, provider behaviors, and patient centered outcomes relate to one another. While health systems typically only track behaviors such as adherence, we recommend tracking the patient-centered outcomes (in the golden circles) routinely and at scale including care experience, wellbeing and clinical findings, and mortality. Recently, Dr. Steve Kim participated in National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM)'s 2023 Prior Authorization Roundtable, an event bringing together payers, industry partners, and patient access professionals together to discuss prior authorizations and barriers to progress in the healthcare space. The 2023 Prior Authorization Survey is now available to all – highlighting insights into the current state of #PriorAuthorizations. Notably, 60% of respondents think that patient care is delayed as a result of current prior auth policies. Additionally, 81% of respondents think that documentation required to obtain prior authorization has increased in the past 2-3 years, increasing the administrative burden of the prior auth process.
