Like the human body, a building is a combination of different systems functioning together as a single entity. It must be cared for as whole. Constructing, owning, and managing buildings has followed the societal trend of system experts, and much like healthcare, the general practitioners have been replaced with specialists. The harsh reality is that 90% of the issues that occur with a body, or a building, are where the systems connect. If you want your facilities to go beyond the estimated useful life and function at the highest level of performance, the human body and the building that shelters them must be managed holistically. Join us for our Wed., April 17th luncheon at Varispace, 450 Freeport Pkwy., Coppell, to hear David Leslie, RWC dive into why this critical disconnect exists, where it exists, and how to correct it permanently. Workers on active worksites are often exposed to situations that pose the risk of serious incidents and fatalities (SIFs). The NSC #WorkToZero initiative released a new white paper on location geofencing to help employers understand how this technology can be used to create ‘virtual barriers’ to both enhance worksite visibility and proactively alert workers to imminent hazards. Prioritize #WorkplaceSafety and learn more about location geofencing technology and our new white paper during our May 29 webinar here: https://lnkd.in/g5fnRNGF. Filling the GAP 👷♀️🏗🚜🦺 It was great to visit another local business today, this time at GAP Group Limited at their depot at Suffolk Park, Bury St Edmunds. A family run business since 1969, you walk in and instantly get a feel for the friendly service they offer to their customers. Thanks so much to Matt Homewood and the team for giving me an insight into the variety of services that you offer. Being a plant hire company, you wouldn't think that they also specialise in: ⛽️ Pump Services (thank them for clearing the flooding we all got stuck in recently!) 🕳 Trenching and Shoring (I managed to capture a snippet of a short term solution in the video) 💧 Tanker services (if you ever need 30,000 litres of water, Darren Farrow's your man!) 💡 Lighting and Heras fencing (one for all my events industry contacts!) 🗺 Surveying (including new drone technology and a full tech team, meaning minimal downtime on site) 🚻 Welfare Units (I caught first site of their brand new unit that runs on Hydrogen power!) There's so much more that I could tell you about, but I'm not the expert. Speak to Robin Baines at Robin.baines@gap-group.co.uk and he'll do a much better job of filling you in 😁 The work that GAP are doing around measuring their emissions is spot on, and it really is great to have your scope 3 calculations done for you by your supply chain 🌎 The best thing about chatting to the team is that they recognise the importance of engaging with the business community. They are happy to offer their expertise and tell you how they can help, and are realistic about their capabilities. I'm delighted to have GAP Group Limited as a part of the Suffolk Supply Chain community, and look forward to working with them on future projects 🤝 Suffolk Chamber of Commerce | Suffolk County Council #business #supplychain #network #community #supplychainsolutions #Suffolk #supportlocal #familybusiness #planthire #sustainability

Results-Driven Project Manager | Civil Engineering Graduate | Committed to Delivering Innovative Solutions and Ensuring Client Satisfaction
My wife and I recently returned from a little getaway in Harpers Ferry that we used to reconnect with nature and take some time away from technology for a few days. Now that we are back home, I wanted to highlight a few pieces of recent civil engineering industry news worth commenting on: 1. The Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse: The civil engineering community was deeply saddened by the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge this past Tuesday. As a former resident of Baltimore City, this news hits particularly close to home. Engineers play a critical role in ensuring the structural integrity and safety of our built environment. Accidents like this serve as a sobering reminder of just how high the stakes can be for engineers, particularly for those that regularly work on public-facing projects. 2. PennDOT Previews 2024 Construction in the Pittsburgh Region: Yesterday, PennDOT District 11, whose jurisdiction includes the Greater Pittsburgh area, announced plans for an estimated $519 million investment in local projects scheduled to be bid on this year. Commuters using the Parkway East will not be pleased to hear that one project expected to begin this year involves the replacement of the Commercial Street Bridge, which I can only imagine will add to an already dreadful traffic situation. 3. NTSB Issues Final Report on Collapse of Fern Hollow Bridge: The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has recently issued its final report on the tragic collapse of the Fern Hollow Bridge. This comprehensive analysis provides detailed insights into the contributing factors of the incident and underscores the importance of dedication to safety protocols in bridge design, inspection, and maintenance. While it is never pleasant to see grim news headlines, it is important to recognize such tragedies as a call to action. In both of the cases mentioned above, we can take the lessons learned and apply them to the future to ensure they will not happen again. By staying informed and continuously striving to elevate industry standards, we can contribute to building a safer future for everyone.
