2 refrains often used to describe the labor market: 1) employees are disengaged, 2) "no one wants to work anymore." We are not asking the right questions. Employment is a transaction: employee offers service or product, employer offers money in return. No one leaves a mutually beneficial transaction. The *correct* question is: "Why is the employee/employer value proposition no longer mutually beneficial?" There's a much, much larger driver of disengagement and willful unemployment; we are not asking the right questions.

Labor Day honors the labor movement and workers' contributions to the country's prosperity and well-being. Their work drives industries, builds infrastructure, and provides essential services that sustain everyday life. Laborers are the backbone of economic productivity. They perform the tasks that produce goods and services, contributing directly to the nation's GDP. From roads to buildings, laborers are responsible for constructing the infrastructure that supports commerce, transportation, and community life. My favorite thing about Labor Day is acknowledging that laborers come from diverse backgrounds and bring various perspectives and skills, fostering creativity and resilience in the workforce while creating a more diverse and accepting environment for all. Needless to say, laborers are essential for their direct contributions to the economy and the broader social and economic stability they provide. Their importance is often highlighted on days like Labor Day, but it’s a recognition that should be had every day.
