Interlining, Virtual interlining and Alternative interlining Would really appreciate advice, suggestions, recommendations of new developments tech etc. that would make interlining easier. So this is what I have done so far: Overall: Signed IATA's MITA Agreements, identified potential partners, both tech and airlines. Short Term Strategy 1. Reached out to multiple Virtual Interlining partners like DoHop, TripStack, KIWI, TripNinja and Airsiders. Started off with limited Virtual Interlining. Baggage transfer has proved to be a massive challenge at this point. Continuing with Self Transfer where possible. Visa restrictions limits this to a certain segment of passengers who can self transfer. Medium Term Strategy 1, Partner with companies like HahnAir, WorldTicket, APG. Utilize HR-169 for structured interlining. Identify key Airline partners and reach out for Baggage transfer agreements. Long Term Strategy Identify and reach out to Airlines directly for formal structured interline agreements. I am aware Virtual Interlining is slowing evolving into Alternative interlining but it's not reached that point yet in the markets I deal with. Is there anything I have missed/can do better? Today is the 2nd day of the World Passenger Festival in Vienna. Many presentations and discussions focus on customer experience and revenue management for long distance and international rail: how the rail passenger experience could be improved by all sorts of ancillary offers such as upgrades, insurances, and dynamic fares to better spread loading. All of this would increase the revenue of operators at the same time. What is fundamentally missing is a focus on the basics what a passenger wants: on-time running and realising connections. In terms of revenue management: one should focus first on revenue retention through preventing compensation payments before putting all focus on ancillary revenue. Trying to optimise train loading during booking is of course useless when many trains are delayed and passengers are forced to take different trains. The picture shows the arrival times at München Hbf at the time of writing this post: it is clear that there is a huge task ahead! So, as an industry, let’s focus first on getting the operation right.

Long-haul low-fare carrier, Norse Atlantic Airways has partnered with Air Promotion Group (APG) to expand its ticket distribution network. The ability to drive ancillary revenue separates the most profitable travel companies from the others - as it offers customers the opportunity to gain more value which can be sold at much higher margin than flights. Having a best-in-class car rental proposition is an obvious example- customers are already purchasing elsewhere and research shows that many of them would be happy to buy via their airline partner. But not all propositions are created equal! Some are a white label with a “sticker”, and some are a completely bespoke booking engine on desktop and mobile powered by proprietary cross selling technology and seamlessly integrating into your loyalty program though earn and redeem.
