Excellent recommendations from this task force in Louisiana. I hope the state listens and enacts these life-saving measures, including incentives to put more nurse midwives and advanced practice nurses to work, especially in those parts of the state where there are no practicing physicians. And in addition to these more clinically focused recommendations, there is also a role for an all-of-community approach to make birth safer. AIM CCI is such a model, recognizing that there are many touchpoints along the birthing journey that can have a positive impact on the outcome. It truly takes the village. Before, during, and after birthing. #innovationinaction #AIMCCI #equityinhealth

These recommendations focus on saving moms and babies by working together for expanded access to care. We need a holistic approach which supports the entire state.

MyRxWallet’s Role in Supporting Maternal Health 1. Empowering Women through Secure and Accessible Health Records: • MyRxWallet can provide women with full, secure access to their health records, ensuring that even when maternity wards close, they can easily share critical medical information with any new healthcare providers they may need to visit. This access to comprehensive health records is crucial for continuity of care, especially in emergency situations where time is of the essence. 2. Telehealth Integration for Remote Maternal Care: • As hospitals struggle to maintain maternity services, MyRxWallet’s platform can integrate telehealth solutions that allow expectant mothers to receive prenatal consultations and care remotely. This technology can be particularly beneficial in areas where physical access to maternity wards is limited. 3. Supporting Policy and Community Efforts: • MyRxWallet can collaborate with local and state governments, as well as community organizations, to advocate for increased funding and support for maternity services. By providing data and analytics on maternal health outcomes through our platform, we can contribute valuable insights to policymakers and help drive initiatives that protect and expand maternity care. 4. Human-Centered Technology for Maternity Care: • At MyRxWallet, we believe that the value of technology lies in its ability to improve lives. Our solutions are designed with the understanding that women are the cornerstone of our families and communities. By offering tools that empower women with control over their healthcare information, we contribute to a future where every woman has the support and care she needs, regardless of where she lives. 5. Ensuring Privacy and Security: • In an age where data privacy is paramount, MyRxWallet ensures that all personal health information is securely stored and accessible only to authorized individuals. This is particularly important for expectant mothers who need to trust that their sensitive health information is protected as they navigate an increasingly challenging healthcare landscape. A Call to Action: MyRxWallet is committed to partnering with healthcare providers, policymakers, and community leaders to ensure that every woman has access to the maternal care she deserves. We recognize the irreplaceable role that women play in our lives and society, and we are dedicated to supporting their health and well-being through innovative, secure, and accessible technology solutions. Together, we can work to preserve the dignity, safety, and health of mothers everywhere.

HR4581 and SS2231, also known as The Maternity and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act of 2024, is headed to President Biden's desk for final approval. This is nothing short of a miracle, and I'm grateful for the bipartisan support. However, the REAL heroes are the families who turned tragedies into advocacy and empowerment. (1) This law means that clinicians will have more resources and funding to research the causes and prevention of stillbirths. (2) Implement evidence-based practices and interventions to reduce stillbirth rates. (3) Provide education and training for healthcare providers on stillbirth prevention strategies. The law expands the Maternal and Child Health Services Block Grant scope to include stillbirth prevention activities, which were previously not covered. I have been beating the drum about preventable stillbirths for three decades. It's comforting to know that the decision-makers are finally listening. #governmentpolitices #healthcare

In a recent announcement from the East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust, families have been told that they must prove liability for the harm caused to mothers and children before getting compensation. This revelation comes in the wake of an independent investigation into poor maternity care at the Trust, which uncovered harrowing details of cases where better care could have made a critical difference to numerous mothers and their babies. Fletchers Group stands in solidarity with these families, and we advocate for a more compassionate approach. Fletchers specialist birth injury solicitor and head of our birth injury unit, Trevor Ward, echoes these concerns. He said: "While we accept that liability has to be proven in all these cases, we are saddened by the stance taken here. It is imperative to recognise the immense suffering these families have endured. This approach, demanding families to prove liability amidst their grief, only exacerbates their anguish. “While we acknowledge the technicalities involved, we urge for a more compassionate approach to alleviate unnecessary distress and for an early realistic consideration of those cases the enquiry considered and to consider whether in reality some of the cases will be proven at much more expense to the NHS and whether this can in fact be avoided." Everything about this article is tragic. Here are my takeaways: ❌ According to CQC figures 67% of England’s maternity services are just not safe enough. ✔️ Whistleblowers are vital to holding public bodies (the NHS) and staff to account. 🚫 The stand out for me though: these families’ experiences just reinforces in my mind a defend and deflect culture. There’s no duty of candour here and what appears to be a complete lack of empathy in ‘allowing’ (at best) this kind of narrative. #maternity #maternityservices #maternitycare #patientsafety #whistleblowers #dutyofcandour #maternityenquiry James Titcombe OBE
