Juno refers to a coordinated transmission of the Morse code message "HI" from amateur radio operators around the world to NASA's Juno spacecraft. This event took place on October 9, 2013, during Juno's close flyby of Earth. The goal of the transmission was to test Juno's ability to receive and process radio signals from Earth, and to demonstrate the global reach of the amateur radio community. The transmission was coordinated through two websites, one provided by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and the other by the Juno team. Radio operators tuned to a specific frequency and transmitted the Morse code message at a predetermined time. The message was repeated 16 times, with each transmission lasting 30 seconds. Juno's Waves instrument, which is designed to study radio waves in the vicinity of Jupiter, successfully detected the Morse code message. The detection was confirmed by scientists at JPL, who were thrilled to see that the message could be received from such a great distance. The Juno-amateur radio interaction was a remarkable demonstration of the power of amateur radio technology and the global reach of the amateur radio community. Intuitive Machines soft-landed the first commercial spacecraft on the Earth’s moon in February. A last-minute glitch with the primary laser rangefinder forced the use of a NASA-developed laser altimeter that was along for a test ride. Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft is going to have a wait a bit longer before its first astronaut mission can take place. Following the decision to scrub the Crew Flight Test mission about two hours prior to liftoff, teams with United Launch Alliance (ULA), Boeing and NASA concluded that more work was needed to prepare the Atlas 5 to launch. In order to do that, the rocket will need to be rolled back to the Vertical Integration Facility (VIF) at Space Launch Complex 41. The anticipated timeline for the work will push the launch back to no earlier than May 17, according to NASA. Exciting news from outer space! The Voyager 1 probe, with the power of an old microcomputer from the 70s and tape technology still operating on board, has been fixed remotely by NASA. The probe has now started to transmit good engineering data again after malfunctioning. This is truly a testament to the incredible engineering that went into the Voyager 1 probe, which has been traveling through space for 46 years. Innovation is the key to opening new frontiers in a large area of space exploration. NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration has given attention to a revolutionary propulsion concept that would radically change how we fly across the universe. Enter the "pellet-beam" – an idea inspired by the sail-beam, aimed at transporting hefty payloads of 1 ton or more through our solar system and beyond the interstellar medium at mind-boggling speeds exceeding 120 km/s, all driven by laser ablation. The limitations of the Rocket equation have long hampered space exploration and pellet-beam gives a glimpse at some exciting future in which transit to distant destinations will be feasible very quickly. To give an idea, Voyager 1's journey to the heliopause lasted 35 years and ran at only 3.6 AU per year, whereas the pellet-beam technology promises to drastically reduce travel times, with outer planets within reach in less than a year, 100 AU distant in about three years, and even the solar gravity lens at 500 AU attainable in approximately fifteen years. What's unique about the Pellet-beam is its ability to push heavy spacecraft carrying tons or more of cargo in a way that broadens the range of possibilities for interstellar missions. There are a lot of potential applications, NASA is ready to see what's on the horizon. They are seeking to prove the feasibility of using pellet-beam propulsion by means of an exhaustive modelling of several subsystems and simulation tests validating its viability as part of Phase I of this daring project. The objective is not only to travel faster, but also to be able to conduct rapid transit missions of interstellar probes.
