South Korea completed a clean sweep at Paris Olympics archery! As a proudly global Korean living in Hong Kong, but a Korean always, I was ecstatic to see the South Korean archery team winning all five gold medals in the event of archery. Aside from enjoying the moment of victory, I pondered why Korean archery is so strong. As mentioned in the article, the Korean archery team's victory lies in transparency and fairness. In the selection process for the national team, current ability is more important than anything else. Academic ties or regional background is not important. After selection, they must be able to endure harsh training. In addition, they were not hesitant to try a new way of doing things such as actively using AI technology in the training. The example of the Korean team is literally common sense. However, it is unfortunate that this obvious thing is not often applied in reality. How a company succeeds is no different from how to succeed at archery. #SouthKorea #Archery #ParisOlymipics Sue Baek CHANGWOO LEE Young Joo Lee Damien Green Yangwoon Chung Joongsoo Joe Sunhoe (Sonny) Kim

The Power of Sportsmanship and Humanity Do you remember the incredible story of Kenyan runner Abel Mutai, who was just inches from the finish line but was mistakenly convinced he had already crossed it? He stopped in his tracks, unaware that the race was not yet over. Behind him, Spanish runner Ivan Fernandez saw the confusion and shouted encouragement to Mutai, urging him to continue. Despite the language barrier, Fernandez's gestures spoke louder than words, and he physically pushed Mutai forward, guiding him to victory. When asked about his selfless act, Fernandez replied with a profound sense of humility: "My dream is that someday we can have a community where we support and push each other to win... I didn't let him win; he was always meant to win. What honor would there be in a victory achieved through someone else's confusion?" Fernandez's words strike at the heart of what truly matters: not winning at all costs, but winning with integrity, compassion, and empathy. His actions serve as a powerful reminder that our values are passed down through generations, shaping the fabric of our society. Let us teach our children the beauty of kindness, the strength in humility, and the power of a helping hand. For in the end, it is not about winning or losing, but about the values we uphold and the positive impact we have on the lives of others. #Inspiration #Sportsmanship #Humanity

It was a pleasure to co-present the International Olympic Committee – IOC Safe Sport Research Strategy to fellow academics, together with Kirsty Charlotte Burrows. At the end of each session, we asked the researchers in the audience what they were currently working on. They highlighted a diverse range of important topics. 🌟 Key areas of focus included the leadership skills of Olympic athletes and their role in promoting safe sports, as well as various forms of interpersonal violence, such as weight-related maltreatment, sexual abuse, harassment, mental abuse, and cyber abuse. There was also significant discussion around the normalization of abuse in athletes' perceptions and the importance of addressing intersectional identity violence and ensuring the re-engagement of survivors in sports. 🚨 Safeguarding was a prominent theme, with discussions on perceptions among parasport athletes, safeguarding in Esports, and the broader need for effective safeguarding strategies and understanding risk factors for violence in sports. Youth well-being and inclusion, especially the importance of their voices in research, were emphasized, along with the barriers for disclosing and reporting violence among teammates. 👧👦 Education and policy development were also crucial topics, particularly in the Global South, and the challenges of implementing policies in non-democratic regions. Participants are also exploring the ethical dimensions of sports, human rights, freedom of expression for athletes. 🧠 Researchers underscored the need for research on integrating safeguarding measures from top organizations down to local clubs, the cultural impact on safeguarding, and the use of AI in policy development. Additionally, tools to support coaches in adopting a violence-free leadership style and the importance of persuading sports organizations and coaches about the significance of safeguarding were highlighted. 📚🤖 This broad spectrum of research topics underscores the complexity of safeguarding in sports and the necessity of a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach to effectively address these issues. The #safesport research field is growing in many directions! 🏅

We are dedicated to promoting independence and active living for seniors. Our out-and-about social alarms, like Abby, are revolutionising the way elderly individuals can stay connected and engaged in their communities. In line with this belief, we want to shine a spotlight on an event taking place in Sweden this Sunday - Vasaloppet, the world's biggest cross-country ski race. Every year, thousands of skiers take on this grand and prestigious challenge. According to tradition, participants ski the same route that Sweden's then-king Gustav Vasa took when he fled from Mora to Sälen, an incredible distance of 90 km, escaping soldiers of Kristian II during the winter of 1520–1521. Since its inception in 1922, over 1.8 million participants have successfully completed the race. This year, 390 registered participants will be proudly wearing orange bibs, identifying them as Vasaloppet veterans - a title earned by completing the race for at least 30 years! 72-year-old Ingrid completed her first Vasaloppet last year in an impressive nine hours. "I've always said that at some point in my life, I would ski Vasaloppet – and now was the time," she said. Vasaloppet is a testament to the spirit of resilience and determination, traits we admire and aim to support at Careium. #Vasaloppet #ActiveSeniors #Independence #Resilience #Careium

“我们更注重过程,成就是过程的结果,它不应该是我们的目标。最大的成就是,他从这段旅程中学到了什么,他可以应用什么,他如何为社会做出贡献。其他的事情并不那么重要。他必须喜欢这项运动,喜欢做这样的事情,无论是否获得奖牌,这仍然是一个过程,仍然是一种体验,仍然是一种有意义的活动.” “We focus more on the process, achievement are the result of a process, it shouldn’t be our goal. The greatest achievement is, what he learnt from the journey, what he can apply, how he can contribute to society. The other things are not so important. He must like this sports, like doing stuff like this, whether get medal or not, it’s still a process, still an experience, still a meaningful activity.” Video Captio: 7:59 min
