🚀 T-MINUS 60 YEARS 🚀 As the countdown to launch begins, we are proud to sponsor Ed Dwight’s journey, honoring his legacy, not only as a pilot and an artist, but as a pioneer who once stood on the precipice of history, only to be denied the chance to leap. Yet, this mission is not about settling scores with the past; it is about embracing the future and inspiring others to look beyond the horizon. Space for Humanity’s mission aligns with Dwight’s lifelong pursuit of breaking barriers and reaching for the stars. By sponsoring his seat on this historic flight, we are not only giving him the opportunity to experience the Overview Effect—a cognitive shift in awareness reported by astronauts during spaceflight—but also sending a powerful message about the importance of inclusivity in the final frontier. And Ed won’t be alone. Joining him is our very own Vision Circle member, Mason Angel. Mason is the perfect partner for Ed’s flight, representing the bright future ahead for human space flight. For Ed Dwight, the journey to space is the culmination of a saga that began with a boy crafting airplanes from orange crates. It is a testament to the belief that it is never too late to reach for the heavens and that the dreams of yesterday can become the triumphs of today. Make sure to tune in for the launch, and post your messages to Ed in the comments below! As we gear up for the launch of #blueorigin NS-25, we look back on the incredible journey Ed Dwight has lived through, bringing him to Launch Site One and Space for Humanity’s role in making it happen. 🚀 L-3 - INSPIRATION TO INSPIRE 🚀 While delivering newspapers in Kansas City, a young Ed Dwight beheld a sight that would chart the course of his destiny. There, captured in monochrome, was Dayton Ragland, an Air Force pilot - An African American Air Force Pilot. For Ed, who had crafted planes from orange crates, this encounter was a beacon of possibility, illuminating Ed’s path from the segregated streets to the boundless skies Dwight’s journey took flight in earnest when he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953. His talent and tenacity propelled him through the ranks, and he earned his wings with the poise and precision that would become his hallmark. The winds of change, however, carried with them the whispers of opportunity. It was President John F. Kennedy’s administration that saw in Dwight not just a pilot but a pioneer. He was handpicked to join the elite ranks of those training for the nascent space program—a path that could have led him to become the first African American astronaut. Tune in tomorrow for more #dwightflight inspiration! The Exploration Company Marketing Manager // Space Law & Policy Jr. Researcher // Planetary Defense Lead Researcher // BA M.Sc. LL.B.
Last week, in the context of the International Astronautical Congress - IAC2024 - in Milan 🇮🇹 I had the opportunity to present my research paper: "Assessing International Cooperation for Planetary Defense: A Comparative Analysis of Space Policy Frameworks" as part of the International Astronautical Federation Symposium on Planetary Defense and Near-Earth Objects, and my role as Space Generation Advisory Council Research Team Lead on Planetary Defense & NEO. Near-Earth Objects (#NEOs) pose a potential threat to our planet, necessitating the development of effective #planetarydefense strategies. International cooperation is crucial for addressing this global challenge. This research conducted a comparative analysis of #space policy ⚖️ frameworks across different countries and assessed the level of international cooperation in the context of planetary defense. By examining the policies, strategies, and institutional mechanisms in place, the study identified gaps, challenges, and opportunities for enhancing collaboration in #NEO detection, mitigation, and response efforts ☄️ Without Alyse Beauchemin, the co-lead and co-author of this paper, and the incredible team from around the planet, it wouldn't have been the same.

Let us introduce you to RAMSES - the European Space Agency's next major planetary defense mission, which will document the extraordinarily close flyby of the Apophis asteroid in 2029. 🛰️ The Rapid Apophis Mission for Space Safety, as the mission is called in full, will accompany the asteroid from start to finish and will therefore be able to examine the influences of various parameters in detail. Especially for future emergency scenarios, in which scientists have to react quickly to possible dangers, it is important to gain an overview of characteristics such as the weight, composition, porosity and density of the asteroid, as well as data on its trajectory, rotation and orientation. ☄️ According to astronomers, a close flyby of an object with similar dimensions only happens every 5,000 to 10,000 years - giving researchers the first opportunity to experiment on such an object at close range. 🤩 Find out more on the official mission website: https://ow.ly/10Ss50SGHwf 📷: European Space Agency - ESA

Today marks a significant milestone in South Africa's aerospace journey as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the launch of SUNSAT. On 23 February 1999, SUNSAT, the first South African satellite, was launched into orbit by NASA on a Delta II rocket. The 64kg microsatellite featured a 15m GSD 3-band multi-spectral pushbroom imager and was developed by a team of South African engineers. This groundbreaking achievement put South Africa on the map in the realm of space exploration and represented the collaborative efforts of Stellenbosch University, academia, government, and industry partners. Over the past two decades, SUNSAT's success has opened doors for subsequent satellite missions and propelled South Africa's #aerospace industry forward. We’re proud to be part of this exciting journey, building on SUNSAT's legacy to drive innovation and contribute towards the growth of South Africa's space industry. #SUNSAT #SouthAfricanSpace #SpaceInnovation #SpaceExploration

Today, on the International Day of Cosmonautics, we're thrilled to share updates on our projects at LKE! ARIEL - Atmospheric Remote-sensing Infrared Exoplanet Large-survey, led by the European Space Agency - ESA and Airbus Defence and Space, involves our LKE team. In 2022 LKE was awarded with a contract selected from a competitive European market. Our specialists conduct system mechanical and thermal analyses of both the spacecraft and optical system. Recently the program advanced to Phase C development. ARIEL, launching on the Ariane 6 rocket, will explore exoplanets from the L2 point, 1.5 million km beyond Earth. Despite astronomers discovering many exoplanets, their connection to stars remains unclear. ARIEL aims to study around 1000 exoplanets, analyzing atmospheres and parent star activity. This research may unlock insights into planet formation and atmospheric evolution, shaping our understanding of the cosmos and the search for extraterrestrial life.
