Starting today off, we recognize a fantastic October. We've grown market share (increasing our lead), we exceeded revenue goals by a wide margin, and we approach each day, more equipped and more informed than yesterday. How did we get here? 1. Our trusting partners and customers. Without whom, we would never be what we are. 2. A zeal for new knowledge and re-thinking how things "are" 3. A consistent positivity and sense of humor in the office (even when getting crushed with tasks, time sensitive goals, or curative items) 4. Resiliency. Our teams, front side and behind the scenes, endure some mind melting legal discussions, underwriting approvals, and closing fire drills. Without bounce back, this field can beat it out of you. What's your favorite thing about working at FIRM? One thing I love about working at FIRM is the sense of unity and purpose in our team. It's inspiring to work with colleagues who are just as passionate as I am about helping people and businesses recover from restoration emergencies. What is one thing we don't know about you (non-work-related)? Many of my colleagues might be surprised to learn that outside of work, I dedicate my time to pursuing a business degree in Supply Chain and Operations Management. It's a challenging yet enriching experience that adds another dimension to my professional journey. What is one thing that you geek out about? In my family, a love for playing cards is practically a requirement, and I must admit, I'm a total 'Poker Nerd.' The thrill for me lies in the delicate balance between mastering card ranges and reading people. What is your favorite store to shop at in-person or virtually? As someone who's really into the outdoors, it's no surprise that REI is one of my favorite stores for both in-person and virtual shopping. They've got a bit of everything I need for my adventures, and the annual rewards from my co-op membership are a great perk too! What is your dream car? My dream car would definitely be a classic American muscle car. I've always had a fascination with them, especially since my dad's first car was a cherry red 1964 Mustang. What is your favorite random fact? Being in emergency restoration, here's a fun fact I like: A gallon of water weighs about 8.34 pounds. It doesn't seem like much until a pipe bursts in your building – then, it's a whole lot of weight that can add up fast!

What’s your favorite thing about working at FACS?  The people! The average tenure at FACS was very impressive to me when I first found FACS, and I see the passion expressed in great work on a daily basis. Not to mention the amount of brainpower amongst our experts! Very proud to represent them in my role. What is one thing we don't know about you (non-work-related)?  I've always loved collecting antiques. On a Saturday/Sunday, you can find me out hunting for unique pieces. What is one thing that you geek out about?  Home improvement--Laying the tile in my condo was incredibly fun! What is one way that you unwind?  A run outside, a good fiction book, or meditation. Depends on where I'm drained. What is your favorite sweet treat?  Ice cream cake. What celebrity would you like to meet at Starbucks for a cup of coffee?  Sade. What is one of your favorite books?  The Four Agreements :)

Being flexible is the name of the game in business, and in life. Our VP Jeff Dougherty welcomed baby #2 into the world YESTERDAY! Congrats Jeff & Haley!   Jeff is on the board of the Penn York Lumbermen’s association, and with his beautiful daughter arriving he will not be able to attend Monday’s meeting. Family comes first, as it should. This allows me the opportunity to go to the meeting in Jeff’s place. I’ll have the chance to speak with our clients, and visit some other clients in the area over the following 48 hours before heading to Boston to visit our team there.   Attending industry functions has been a mainstay of AGL. It’s a great place to not only connect, BUT a great place to get a pulse on the market. Are we going to see the typical summer slow down? Probably. How “slow” will it really be? Is there some frontloading going on due to the impending election? Is there enough supply or demand in the marketplace? A lot of these questions will be answered in a week, and I will have the luxury of relaying that information to our internal team.   When you get to see your clients over a decade's time span, they become more than clients, but more like friends, and in some instances, family.   A little flexibility goes a long way, and getting to meet some friends in the process is always fun.

Marketing at its best

When I started my new job about seven months ago my son began his sophomore year of high school. As luck would have it, they were on the same day and I had to travel to Arizona during the first day of school. Since starting my son: 1. Ran away from school, almost got hit by a car (as he was running away) and was found by the police. 2. Got in trouble with the law and picked up new charges. 3. We as a family endured a great deal of teen drama that added a few white hairs to sparse collection of hair on my head and facial hair. 4. My son was thrown out of this third school. During this time I have also: 1. Achieved great milestones in my professional career. 2. Learned to challenge that I thought was the status quo and grown professionally. 3. I am spending more and more time out of my comfort zone as I help navigate the organization to greater efficiencies. 4. Achieved the highest levels of professional performance in years. How? Two things: 1. When I need to take time off for a family issue my leadership simply said go and deal with it. 2. When I needed to talk thru things my leadership and other members of the organization always made time for me. I say this because we all hear that a few kind words and kind actions speak volumes and pay dividends. The intent of this post is to give a specific example of what happens in reality when we are kind. I for one will never forget the compassion shown to me when I needed it the most. As a result, I repay it daily with a zeal for what I do and my job.

This month I will celebrate my 47th Birthday. Yesterday, I was in the path of totality.  No better time than the present to (finally) pursue my passion! I have always been interested in real estate, but I started to consider it as a career in 2001 while taking a real estate investment class at Harvard Law School. In 2002, I joined Orrick, one of the best commercial real estate practices in the country. In 2006, when I left the law to start recruiting on Wall Street, I adored my new career, but couldn’t shake my real estate dreams. The turning point came in 2009 when the market tanked, and I made my first investment – a short sale with 10% down and a 5/1 ARM. I was hooked! When my husband landed his dream job in Dallas and we moved our family to an amazing neighborhood in West Plano, it only took me about a month to start saying “y’all”….and Y’ALL(!!!!) it took me even less time to realize that we had moved to the best market for real estate investment in the nation. After investing in three different cities around the Metroplex and completing a new build in North Dallas last year, I realized it was time. I am beyond excited to announce that I have joined Team Clary Realty, a successful brokerage with strong roots in Texas and a deep knowledge of the DFW market. Having lived and worked in Napa, DC, Boston, SF, Tokyo, NYC…and to have called DFW home for the past seven years, I know quite a bit about relocating, and have a unique perspective on the diverse needs of individuals and families looking for their dream home in our vibrant state. THREE cheers to my 3rd Act!
