For those involved in the satellite industry, The Economist's article titled "War in Space Is No Longer Science Fiction" is must-read. This insightful article sheds light on the complex relationship between advancements in satellite technology, national interests, and the turbulent international landscape. The growing number of stakeholders from both public and private sectors, the resurgence of space activities, the lack of clear regulations, and the rising tensions all raise significant concerns about the peaceful use and exploration of Space.

🚨 New Report: Space Policy Scenarios and U.S. Responses Check out Peter Garretson and Rich Harrison's latest after action report on space policy wargames conducted by the AFPC Space Policy Initiative. The report examines near-term scenarios potentially occurring on the Moon and in Cislunar space that could impact U.S. space policy over the next two to three decades. Don't miss this report that aims to prepare U.S. leaders for potential space developments and their implications! 🔗 Read the full report here: https://buff.ly/3B9gcKv

My new paper for Council on Geostrategy, on why space matters to the UK -- and, more importantly, *how* to make the case for it. In short, I argue for a new DEFENCE-centric view of space policy. "space advocacy should now be more closely synchronised and coordinated with the imperative of national defence – responding ... to the concerns and demands of the public in this era of renewed global tensions – and with the essential challenge of UK’s position in the next chapter of global space development, particularly in relation to the cislunar economy" https://lnkd.in/eAGbgQer

My favorite part of Todd Harrison’s piece below: “In other words, if you want to establish control in the air, sea, or land domains, you have to blow stuff up—or at least credibly threaten to blow stuff up. This doesn’t work well in space because blowing stuff up (or threatening to do so) would be ineffective or even counterproductive in many situations. Not all adversaries have space capabilities to target, and for those that do, destroying their satellites doesn’t convey control. In fact, the space debris produced by kinetic attacks in space would actually make it harder for us to use our own space capabilities. This is the central dilemma in space superiority: how do you deny an adversary the use of space while also maintaining your own ability to use space?” Space Force Association

In this new thought piece by Rick Tumlinson, he lays out nicely the conversation many of us have heard whispers of about 3, unfortunately often competing visions for the United States Space Force. While I don't agree with all of his points and conclusions, it is an important topic in need of more discussion, and I strongly suggest #reading it. The #USA must win in the #5ir, that is, the #spaceeconomy, and it will require vision, technology, and difficult conversations. link: https://lnkd.in/eaEtGdNa -GSP- #newspace MilkyWayEconomy

The risk of space isolation grows at the pace and escalation of human Spaceflight operations. If the White House stays true to its commitments to establish permanent basing and human presence on the Moon around 2035, then we should expect a space contingency within our lifetime. See how "black swans" and "grey rhinos" affect national strategic policy decisions in part 2 of our article "Strategic Implications of China Winning the Space Rescue Race" with Peter Garretson. https://lnkd.in/eQtU8Nd4

I am so excited to announce that I will be part of the Space Generation Advisory Council Project Group "Assessing International Cooperation for Planetary Defense: A Comparative Analysis of Space Policy Frameworks." I am sure it will be an amazing journey shaping an idea into a formal and concrete study, and sharing this experience with my team and colleagues! Finding possibilities, obstacles, and gaps for improved #cooperation in internationally #planetarydefence is our main objective. We genuinely believe that #space should be employed for the good of all and for #peaceful purposes. Policies must evolve and grow, to create a more fair, safe, and sustainable humanity 🚀
