📍 "It is impossible to be perfect, but it is mandatory to do better." This was the quote of the day from Malcolm Hett at our inaugural Ardea International #ModernSlaveryConference, which took place last week at the DMH Stallard LLP office in London. The conference provided a unique platform for industry experts to gather and exchange ideas and practical insights on how organisations can address #ModernSlavery #Risk. 📝 Here are some key takeaways from the session led by Jen Green from Labor Solutions on the Role of #Stakeholder #Engagement in Human Rights Due Diligence: 👉 According to the World Benchmarking Alliance's 2024 Social Benchmark, only 9% of assessed companies provide examples of how they engage with affected stakeholders. 👉 There are common challenges to effective stakeholder engagement, including a lack of trust, uncertainty about which stakeholders to engage and how, coordination issues, resource constraints, and difficulty in finding the right tools, platforms, or systems for engagement. 👉 However, as Jen pointed out, companies should strive to: * Build on existing relationships as a starting point and adopt a people-centered approach. * Foster trust through #transparency. * Provide support to business partners when needed. * Set reasonable and meaningful goals. * Understand that #HRDD is about making meaningful efforts; they should move beyond merely 'showing' to actively 'doing.' This year's Modern Slavery Conference was sold out! What a fantastic day! Our Ardea International #modernslavery #conference held in partnership at DMH Stallard LLP offices in #london managed to surpass last year's event with even higher ratings! A huge thank you to our speakers who provided their time and expertise and to our participants who raised thoughtful questions, comments and shared their challenges openly. A few takeaways from the day: 🔸The frankness from most participants about their journey and the challenges facing them in terms of resource and expertise, and accepting that addressing #duediligence and #riskmanagement is a journey. Hannah May's insights sparked a lot of discussion and appreciation. 🔸Insights about #benchmarking from Martin Buttle CCLA 🔸The findings from our intern's white papers and their confident delivery of their findings Joe Cronje Matilda Amess. Their research was drawn from a variety of sources including Walk Free (thanks to Nathanael Foo for his contribution as a speaker . We are proud of our internship programme! Download their papers from our website. 🔸The need to reconsider indicators of #modernslavery to prevent further instances like the recent McDonald's case - Phil Brewer MA (more on this to follow) 'be professionally curious' 🔸 The power of storytelling and our own epiphany -Sarah Woodcock The Anti-Slavery Collective 🔸 Developing meaningful stakeholder engagement- Jen Green 🔸The ROI of investing in a roadmap to address #modernslavery risk Amelia Woodley, FIEMA (also listen to her insights on our #podcast) 🔸What 'rehabilitation' programmes should be put in place for survivors of modern slavery (a survivor) 🔸Quote for the day Malcolm Hett 'It is impossible to be perfect, but mandatory to do better' and his insights about looking beyond their operations. This summer, we had the immense pleasure of welcoming Camilla Ambrosini to our team, and her contributions have been nothing short of remarkable. 👩🎓 Camilla Ambrosini: Camilla's journey with us was a gateway to the heart of European project implementation. She closely observed the skills needed to develop and advance these projects with determination. 🎉 👩⚖️Camilla shared, "For me, this internship was a gateway to the heart of European project implementation. It gave me a close look at the skills required to develop and advance these projects with determination. Big Cheers to Harvey Gould & Why Interns Aren’t Just for Tea Runs! ☕💻💥 When Harvey joined us from Imperial College this summer, we didn’t just get an intern; we got a powerhouse! 🙌 Forget the coffee runs and endless tea duties (although, fair play, we do love a brew). Harvey jumped in with real, game-changing responsibilities, and he smashed it. 🔥 In just seven weeks, Harvey designed the VoyagerVRLab.co.uk site from the ground up, created brand guidelines, nailed quality assurance, and even took on some serious C++ development for a volumetric capture tool! 💻🌐 His competitor research and creative insights brought fresh ideas we’d never have seen coming. And when we launched the Voyager project in September, he was there representing us to clients and guests, looking like a seasoned pro. 👏 For any business working with interns, here’s a tip: don’t just hand your interns the kettle. 🫖 Tap into their skills, hand them the projects that matter, and watch them bring massive value. DMU and the University of Leicester are packed with talented students just waiting to make their mark; our time with Harvey proved how much impact they can have. 💡🚀 Harvey, you’ve set a seriously high bar, and we can’t wait to bring on the next wave of talented students! 🎉 #InternSuccess #LeicesterTalent #CreativeInternships #FutureOfWork #VoyagerVR #UniversityTalent #BeyondTheKettle #FreshIdeas #MakingAnImpact #InternshipLife #Innovation #YoungTalent #SkillsForSuccess #TechFuture #InternWithImpact Thoughts?

AVOID AT ALL COSTS: At IGS I initiated an incredibly successful Internship programme which ran from Covid until the end of my tenure, run by Entrepreneurial Scotland. It was inclusive, caring, diverse and a huge commercial success as well as giving bright young women and men meaningful opportunities. We invested heavily in the selection and interview process. Contrast that with the utterly appalling and inhuman Extern which seems to be run on the cheap by AI, has ZERO RESPECT for the time and efforts of candidates, offers NO FEEDBACK, just dumping people whose applications its algorithms don't like. Classic silicon valley. Hang your heads in shame National Geographic and Nature Conservancy for wasting members' subscriptions, donations and public money on these people. By the way if you claim to be international why does your application form ask specific questions about US work visas and nowhere else? Typical narrow-mindedness.

Hey LinkedIn I'm excited to announce the completion of my 4-week online internship at The Global Paradox. During this experience, I authored 8 articles on the pressing issues within the European context, all of which were published. This journey has enriched my understanding of Europe’s complex dynamics, from policy shifts to socio-economic challenges, and allowed me to contribute meaningfully through research and writing. A huge thank you to the Global Paradox team for this opportunity and the valuable mentorship. Looking forward to applying these insights and continuing to explore impactful topics! #Internship #ContentWriting #Europe #GlobalParadox #PublishedArticles
