SpaceX is releasing details on their transit times for passengers (yes you are reading that correctly) on services that will have transit times of under an hour from anywhere in the world to anywhere in the world. I had to put down my coffee when I read this and pause for a moment at the shear scope of this pending reality. For me (and most of us) this is going to have much more to do with cargo than passengers. We are inching closer to a world where there will be a service level for goods to be transported from Shanghai to LA in under an hour. Will it take 5 years or 20? I don’t know and it it really doesn’t matter. The fact that it CAN happen and likely WILL happen is exciting and opens up a whole new area for us to explore our industry. If they are able to reach their lowest cost of operation of $2M with a payload capacity of 1.5M kilos per flight that equates to a cost to serve of 75 cents per kilo to operate. Even at large multiples of that cost - there would certainly be a market. Like John said, “Strange days indeed.” I’m here for it.

Starship's 6th Flight Test: A Leap Towards Full Reusability! Starship’s sixth flight test on November 19, 2024, marked another milestone for SpaceX as it continues its journey towards full reusability. Here's what went down: 1. Successful Launch The Super Heavy booster lifted off with all 33 Raptor engines at full power, sending Starship on its way from Starbase. 2. Smooth Ascent & Stage Separation Both Starship and the booster separated as planned, with the booster initiating its return journey. 3. Boostback Burn & Abort The booster’s boostback burn went well, but a critical hardware check led to an abort of the catch attempt. The booster safely executed a splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico. 4. Starship's Space Ascent Starship performed flawlessly, reigniting its Raptor engine in space and completing its deorbit burn. 5. Successful Reentry & Splashdown After a smooth reentry and flip, Starship splashed down in the Indian Ocean, demonstrating vital capabilities for future missions. 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲?🛰 The answer surprised me, honestly. Today, around 𝟏𝟎,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡🌎, and it gets even more surprising when you realize that back in 2015, there were only 𝟏,𝟒𝟎𝟎 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞. But, who’s responsible for launching over 9,000 satellites into space in 10 years? Well, that is -mainly- someone we all may have heard about. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤 (part of SpaceX), 𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝟔,𝟗𝟎𝟎 of those 10.000 satellites (70% of the total). Starlink is changing how people stay connected around the world, and not just in homes, boats, and trains, but also in 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬.✈️ After a lot of analysis and planning, last Monday, SAS - Scandinavian Airlines finally announced that we will be installing 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐈𝐅𝐂 (WiFi) across our 𝟏𝟐𝟎 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 and 𝟒 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐬, starting 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓. This means seamless, door-to-door connectivity and ultra-high-speed internet with 𝐧𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐧𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐠-𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 to miss our meetings anymore (sorry for that😉). And the best part? 𝐈𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞 💸 With 𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞, 𝐒𝐓𝐂𝐬 𝐨𝐧-𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐬🛰 and a large bunch of aircraft to be modified, it will be a very 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 for this 2025. I feel excited about this project, and I want to give a 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬 to our friends at SpaceX and all our amazing colleagues at SAS - Scandinavian Airlines who worked hard to make this decision happen. 🚨STARSHIP FLIGHT TEST SEVEN PREPARES TO REWRITE THE FUTURE OF SPACE TRAVEL The seventh Starship flight test is set to launch a next-gen ship packed with upgrades. For the first time, it will deploy payloads, test reentry experiments, and attempt a full booster catch and return. The ship will fly with revamped flaps, a new heat shield, and improved engines that boost propellant by 25%. Avionics have been overhauled with Starlink-enabled comms, smart batteries, and 30+ cameras streaming 120 Mbps in-flight video. The ship will also relight a Raptor engine in space and splash down @Starlink simulators into the Indian Ocean. Booster catch? On the table—but only if all systems are green. The evolution of cellular connectivity is happening and slowly moving from Earth-based to space-based. In 10-20 years time, we might not have any more lattice towers in rural areas as it will be replaced by satellites providing connectivity. Watch this space. (pun intended)
