Today our direct mail campaign promoting the Scope Summer 2024 appeal lands on doormats up and down the country. We are delighted to have partnered with Scope on their summer campaign this year. A direct mail and email campaign exclusively to current and previous supporters with aims to generate donations, reactivate the lapsed and retain existing supporters. It has been a tough time for disabled families facing the extra costs for living the life many take for granted. The Scope Helpline, website and other resources exist to help disabled families through these challenges. Our mailing celebrates the fifth anniversary of the relaunched Scope Helpline which, in that time, has helped many thousands of disabled people by providing essential advice on topics such as employment, benefits, access to resources, independent living and how to navigate the many challenges faced daily. Feedback and reactions from the people helped is overwhelming, and it is pretty clear how proud the team at Scope are with the achievements. So our campaign celebrates progress over the last 5 years and touches on some of the ambitions for the next 10 years, we also punctuate the pack with persuasive messages asking for support.   At a time when direct mail in general, and postage costs in particular, are not getting a lot of loving press coverage, we can’t overlook the power of mailings. A pack can have the genuine capacity to deliver very compelling messages to supporters and ultimately generate vital funds for charities and their service users. The Red, White, Blue and Generous As we observe our nation’s 247th anniversary with picnics, barbecues, fireworks and other fun, let us also celebrate the amazing American tradition of sharing and caring for one another.  This uplifting spirit was documented as far back as 1831 by the French sociologist and political theorist Alexis de Tocqueville who studied and wrote about America’s inspiring sense of community. Today we can be proud of our philanthropic leadership evidenced by a record $557 billion in private giving with 67% coming from individual donors.  Philanthropy is more than the sharing of money -- it is the voluntary giving of time, talent and treasure.  About 25% of the adult population enthusiastically volunteers for their favorite non-profits, enabling our 1.5 million non-profits to touch, improve and save more lives, especially helping those who are struggling, with much more outreach and effectiveness than would otherwise be possible. Independent Sector estimates the value of a volunteer hour at $33.49.  The giving of time and money go hand-in-hand with it much more likely when a person contributes one, they will contribute the other.
