Stroke Awareness Month is a time to raise awareness about the causes, symptoms and risk factors associated with strokes. At Kessler Foundation, Peii (Peggy) Chen, PhD, senior research scientist in our Center for Stroke Rehabilitation Research, is studying whether the number of prism adaptation treatment (PAT) sessions in regular clinical practice would predict spatial neglect (SN) improvement and rehabilitation outcomes: https://lnkd.in/eAGuauV2 #Stroke #PrismAdaptation #StrokeResearch #KesslerResearch [Video Description: Black background. Blue text reads: "Peii." Underneath is white outlined text that reads: "Chen." There is a portrait of Dr. Chen to the left. A new research platform led by the University of Cambridge, TBI-REPORTER, will bring together leading experts to enable better and more coordinated research into traumatic brain injury. Hopefully, this will result in more people receiving appropriate treatment due to better forecasting of how a particular injury is likely to impact a patient with TBI. The platform will focus on research into populations previously underserved, including unhoused people, prisoners and those who have experienced domestic violence. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/es2DHTDU

USA Today-2023 VT Woman of the Year, Founder & Director, Stone House Associates, Co-Founder & Director, The Safety Team, inc.
Very excited to be a part of this! Join us! Summit Session Spotlight Session 2: From Research to Action - Shaping the Future of Violence Prevention Through Innovations in Medical Science, led by Dr. Christine DiBlasio, Dr. Mary Clyde Pierce, and Dr. Edie Zusman Thursday, Oct 5th - 10:30am to 12:00pm Central Around 50% to 60% of the global population will experience traumatic stress in their lifetime, which can have lasting effects on their well-being. Experts on our panel will discuss how trauma can leave an epigenetic mark on genes, impacting their expression without causing mutations. This can lead to conditions like depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder by regulating glucocorticoid receptor expression and brain development. Fortunately, our neural systems are adaptable, allowing us to restructure them. A well-designed personal safety curriculum, informed by trauma research and therapy, can be a valuable adjunctive treatment. Trauma-informed training empowers survivors, replacing feelings of helplessness with control, facilitating healing and recovery from trauma. Session 2 also offers 1.5 CEUs! (90mins, applicable only in Illinois state) Register at https://lnkd.in/ggC3PY4g #PAVE #Summit #Healthcare #Burnout

Register here; https://lnkd.in/gspnmSWm We’re excited to invite you to our newest initiative, the Youth Brain Injury Summit, to create positive education pathways for young people with brain injuries. For years, families have been asking why they can’t attend the professional learning courses that clinicians, educators and disability supports do. They also desperately need the knowledge, information and networks, to be able to positively navigate the complex path of raising a family impacted by brain injury. At the same time, our amazing network of volunteers have said that learning from lived experience has been one of the most impactful ways to learn and develop skills. So, we’re closing that gap and bringing everyone’s “Heads Together” so we can learn from each other, build stronger connections, and unite in our shared purpose of making the world a better place for young people with brain injuries. Inclusion must be the foundation for everything which is why we need all voices at this table, only through collaboration will we create pathways that really work, for everyone involved. So be brave and be part of this change by registering for our first ever Youth Brain Injury Summit! Register now for your ticket before they sell out! https://lnkd.in/gspnmSWm
