Hello Everyone and thank you for joining us weekly during our live Wed(NSI)days! This week we are excited to welcome Ken Lizak, Completions Advisor at Shell. Ken Lizak will be sharing a presentation titled: Fracturing 30,000 ft Wells in Deepwater, Planning and Execution Learnings from the Gulf of Mexico. Fracturing at 30,000 ft presents many unique challenges. The learnings from over 15 stages pumped at these depths are discussed in detail. Some of the similarities between deep conventional and unconventional reservoirs are contrasted. Many of these deepwater wells consist of low permeability stacked reservoirs. The thickness of these zones, most in excess of 2,500 ft, require multiple stage fractures for economical completions. Discussions cover new work on low friction fracturing fluids and tubular coatings, and improved frac sleeves which may become beneficial to the industry. The issue of highly dipping reservoirs and low frac gradient to overburden windows are presented. Achieving an effective low cost, multistage frac is important in both worlds. While deep water is pressing forward trying to adopt some unconventional technologies, perhaps there are learnings that unconventional completion engineers could consider adapting. Join us this week in welcoming our guest speaker and participate in what is sure to be a great discussion! Wednesday, September 11th at 9 am CT Topic: Fracturing 30,000 ft Wells in Deepwater, Planning and Execution Learnings from the Gulf of Mexico Guest Speaker: Ken Lizak, Completions Advisor, Shell Host: Dario Stemberger, VP of Engineering, NSI Technologies, LLC FREE Registration Link: https://lnkd.in/e8QWq5A #innovation #technology #energy #oilgas #production #oilandgas #cloud #hydrocarbons #offshore #oilandgasindustry #oilfield #oil #gas #petroleum #drilling #oilindustry #energystrong #onshore #oilandgasexploration #permianbasin #upstream #permian #completions #frac #shale #eagleford #reservoir #geomechanics #hydraulicfracturing #bakken #deepwater

Frederic Schneider, Projects Director for Beicip Franlab presented at EnergyNL today discussing the offshore oil potential. Since 2014, Oilco and Beicip-Franlab have studied offshore areas in Newfoundland and Labrador to understand their potential for oil and gas. They used a special tool called Forward Stratigraphic Modeling (FSM) to create detailed maps of where oil and gas might be found. This process helped Identify potential oil and gas areas, create detailed 3D models to predict where oil and gas could be, test different scenarios to understand how the geology of the area has changed, and assess the geological risks on both a regional and local scale. From a sustainable energy perspective, top sites have been identified by Beicip Franlab and Oilco to avail of C02 Storage potential offshore Newfoundland. This looks highly promising. #BeicipFranlab #Oilco #EnergyNL2024 #TheOGM

Hello Everyone and thank you for joining us weekly during our live Wed(NSI)days! This week, we're excited to welcome back Martin Rylance, Discipline Lead and Distinguished Advisor for Reservoir and Well Enhancement at @MEDCO Energi Ltd and THREE60 ENERGY Ltd. He will present: Fishbones, Wishbones and Birch Leaves: Multilateral Well Design Part 1 - Production - Practical Solutions In 2015, a new JV in Eastern Siberia faced challenges with an existing development drilling 400m horizontal wells. By 2016, the team ramped up activity targeting a thin clastic oil rim at 1,550m TVDSS. Early gas/water breakthrough risks necessitated careful well placement and drawdown limitation. In 2017, the JV doubled horizontal well length to 1,250m to enhance productivity. A series of multi-lateral pilots were conducted to test lateral junction construction, aiming to increase production and reduce the number of wells and capital expenditure. By 2021, over 100 multi-lateral wells were drilled, achieving up to 6,000m reservoir exposure at 1.5 times the cost of a 400m horizontal well, with five times the productivity and significantly reduced drawdown. Join us for this insightful presentation and engaging discussion! When: Wednesday, July 10th at 9 am CT Topic: Fishbones, Wishbones and Birch Leaves: Multilateral Well Design Part 1 - Production - Practical Solutions Guest Speaker: Martin Rylance, Discipline Lead and Distinguished Advisor for Reservoir and Well Enhancement at MEDCO Energi Ltd and THREE60 Energy Ltd Host: Dante Guerra, Ph.D., President, NSI Technologies, LLC FREE Registration Link: https://lnkd.in/giDagSba #innovation #technology #energy #oilgas #production #oilandgas #cloud #hydrocarbons #offshore #oilandgasindustry #oilfield #oil #gas #petroleum #drilling #oilindustry #energystrong #onshore #oilandgasexploration #permianbasin #upstream #permian #completions #frac #shale #eagleford #reservoir #geomechanics #hydraulicfracturing #bakken

🔍 Honoring the Pioneers of Oil & Gas Research: J. V. Vogel and M. J. Fetkovich 🔍 I recently came across an intriguing piece of correspondence from May 22, 1970, which captures the essence of scholarly collaboration in the oil and gas industry. This letter, sent by M. J. Fetkovich to J. V. Vogel of Shell Oil Co., acknowledges the profound impact of Vogel's article, "Inflow Performance Relationships for Solution-Gas Drive Wells," published in the January 1968 issue of JPT. In this letter, Fetkovich not only expresses his appreciation for Vogel's groundbreaking work but also seeks additional data to extend and validate his own research. This exchange underscores the pivotal role both of these experts played in advancing our understanding of oil well performance and the importance of solution-gas drive mechanisms. 📊 J. V. Vogel: J. V. Vogel was a distinguished figure in reservoir engineering. His pioneering work on inflow performance relationships (IPR) for solution-gas drive wells provided a foundational framework for predicting oil well flow rates. Vogel's 1968 article introduced methods to better understand and predict the performance of wells under different reservoir conditions, which has had a lasting impact on the field. 🔬 M. J. Fetkovich: M. J. Fetkovich is another luminary in the field of reservoir engineering, known for his extensive research and contributions to the understanding of reservoir performance and production optimization. His work often focused on well performance analysis and the development of practical tools for engineers. Fetkovich's interest in Vogel's work and his subsequent request for additional data highlight his dedication to building upon existing knowledge to further advance the industry. This historical document is a testament to the enduring value of collaboration and the relentless pursuit of knowledge in our industry. It reminds us of the giants on whose shoulders we stand and the collaborative spirit that drives innovation forward. Through their dedication and contributions, Vogel and Fetkovich have left an indelible mark on the oil and gas industry. Their work continues to influence contemporary practices and inspires ongoing research and development. Let’s continue to honor this legacy by fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration in all our professional endeavors. #OilAndGas #ReservoirEngineering #Collaboration #Research #Innovation #IndustryPioneers #DataSharing #History #OilIndustry
