Hey, what's going on? I am Tony Taylor with speakuniversity. org. I wanted to take some time out to say thank you for trusting me with your secret. Did you know that over 77% of the world's population are afraid of public speaking? That means if you go into a room and there's four people in, their chances are. That three of those people are going to be afraid of public speaking. When you're done with this course, you won't be the third. I battled with public speaking throughout my whole life, right? Even before I even knew that that that was what my problem was. I would go into rooms and I would instantly feel this, that, this shyness. And I would ask myself, Oh my God, how come I can't, just can't use my voice. I noticed that when I talked to certain people, I felt comfortable. But more importantly, I feel comfortable when I'm having those conversations inside of. My head. It all makes sense when we're having the conversations in our head because there are thoughts, but for whatever reason, we're afraid to tell other people our thoughts. The world needs to hear. Your voice, now more than ever, fears fear, even if it's public speaking. Or you could have a fear with taking the trash out. It's a fear, right? Fear stands for false evidence appearing real for me, the first fear that I can think about. With that I can remember. Was when I had just got my driver's license and I was told to get on the highway. I was told hey, it's time for you to go and drive. I don't know how I had never driven before it got my driver's license and not managed to to drive on the highway. I started noticing that I started getting this thing where I started shaking. I started sweating really bad. I started thinking about all the things that could possibly go wrong and that is where I went wrong. Fast forward to when my first duty station was over. I was getting ready to go to Japan and I asked my best friend if he could help me drive my car back from North Carolina to Indiana. He didn't show up. I didn't have a choice. I got in the car. I drove 24 hours plus. From North Carolina. To Indiana. The whole time I drove, I was, I was holding the steering wheel, steering wheel, and I kept telling myself, you love driving on the highway. This is so comfortable for you. You were made for this. You're doing such an amazing job. That's what I did. I looked up and I saw the sign that said you're 20 miles away from Indiana. It's the same thing with public speaking. I was always afraid to use my voice, I was told from the very beginning. Your job as a child is to stay in a child's place and that is to be seen. Not her. How many of you? Have had that happen to you, to where you felt that your job was to be seen. Not hurt. I'm here to tell you your job is both again. The world needs to hear your voice. For me, I just started raising my hand. I started giving myself the same affirmations that I would give myself when I was on the side of the highway. Talking my way out of certain situations, thinking about all the things that could go wrong instead of the things that could go right. Your first challenge. I want you to walk up to your fear. I want you to embrace that. I want you to do a video and let us know exactly what your fear is. What do you intend to do about it? What do you think is going to help you get over this fear?
