Really looking forward to this. Question for service designers out there: what do you think a teenager should know about #servicedesign as a career? Could be something inspiring or even a reality check!
This week we've been selecting participants for 2024 programme. There are some stellar sign-ups from Greenford High School and it been tough picking only 30 students to join us on the 3-day Service Design course in October coached by Simon Gough and Mo-Ling Chui at University of West London. #ServiceDesign #LondonForEveryone

Planning has been approved for Callander Community Campus by the National Park Planning Authority ✅ The scheme will deliver a vibrant and inclusive campus for Stirling Council that enhances the learner journey from nursery to high school. The new Callander primary school will sit adjacent to Callander Nursery, McLaren High School and McLaren Leisure Centre, creating a new community campus. Chris Malcolm, partner at Ryder, said: "This is a really important project for us within the beautiful setting of the national park, and is a good example of what can be achieved through sensitive engagement and a considered approach to working with context. Having planning consent granted is an important milestone in creating a fantastic learning environment for the pupils of Callander primary, and delivering wider place benefits to the town." #planning #education #architecture

In recent years, we have seen several adaptive reuse projects for higher education facilities. These types of projects were common in the hospitality, mixed-use, and residential markets in the past. Whether the impetus is preserving a historic building or saving on construction costs; it has been proven that older buildings can be repurposed to provide modern, interesting, and technologically advanced educational spaces for campuses. Read our blog Adaptive Reuse in Higher Education to see how three large Universities are reimagining existing spaces for the benefit of students and their learning: https://lnkd.in/eV4UkStt

A challenging tight site optimised to maximise density. Whist Phase 1 took an existing planning consent not optimised for modular which we worked tirelessly with DMDmodular to make work, Phase 2 became a masterclass, optimised to reap the benefits of offsite volumetric modular construction. You wouldn't know to look at it, which shows how this approach can really work in inner city constrained sites in the face of record high construction costs.
We are thrilled to announce the completion of Phase 2 of the Purpose-Built Student Accommodation at Mayfield Road, Edinburgh for Lanark Student Living. This exciting development adds to Edinburgh’s growing student community with 259 bedspaces across both phases, providing modern, comfortable, and sustainable living. What makes this project truly innovative is our use of offsite volumetric modular construction, working with DMD Modular to ensure faster build times, enhanced quality control, and reduced environmental impact. Constructed by Clark Contracts and working closely with the comprehensive team of experienced consultants, this project supports the vibrant student population of Edinburgh with thoughtfully designed, state-of-the-art living spaces immediately adjacent Edinburgh University's King's Buildings Campus.
