Celebrating Filipino Heritage Month: Honoring History, Culture, and Contributions June is a special time to celebrate Filipino Heritage Month in the United States, honoring the rich history, culture, and contributions of Filipino Americans and Filipinos worldwide. This observance aligns with June 12, Philippine Independence Day, marking the declaration of independence from Spanish colonial rule in 1898. Celebrating in June allows communities to align festivities with this important historical event, emphasizing national pride and cultural heritage. Cultural Awareness: Increase awareness and appreciation of Filipino culture, traditions, and history. An important aspect is understanding the difference between the use of "F" and "Ph." "Filipino" refers to anything related to the Philippines, including the people, language, and culture, while "Philippines" refers to the geographic location. The usage of "Filipino" reflects the historical and linguistic heritage accurately. Recognition: Highlight the significant contributions of Filipino Americans to society in various fields such as arts, politics, science, and community service. Community Engagement: Strengthen community ties and promote solidarity among Filipino Americans and other communities. For resources to learn more, visit the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS), The Filipino Channel (TFC), National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA), and Philippine Consulates and Embassies. Let’s take this month to honor and celebrate the vibrant Filipino heritage and its impact on our communities! hashtag #FilipinoHeritageMonth hashtag #CulturalAwareness hashtag #CommunityEngagement hashtag #PhilippineIndependenceDay

"OUR SINGAPORE- ONE UNITED PEOPLE" BY MATT-Q https://lnkd.in/gGqGKHgY Those who study history and are in touch with current affairs also know that 'unity' is a loaded term. It can be a banner used for various purposes and agendas, and it depends on who is heralding the call for unity and the MORAL BASIS in which one is advocating and mobilising for it. To me, Singapore can become as disunited as other states IF we let our success get to our head, put the cart before the horse and end up missing the forest for the trees. Any nation is as good as the its people and the kind of values they uphold collectively. Nationhood is an intrinsic and intangible sense of shared identity and bond, which is different from a mere STATE, which may have the physical and mechanical systems and structures in place. Nurturing a people in a STATE is inherently different from building up a NATION where there is this unseen but undeniable shared consciousness and sense of belonging amongst the people, which is a goal that we have been striving to achieve with each successive generation since our independence. We have done so well in terms of being NUMBER ONE for so many physical achievements. But surely, we will make a much more powerful and lasting impact on the world if Singaporeans were known for their kindness, compassion and willingness to journey alongside with those who are different, disabled, need more understanding and help and to help one another 'get there'. Wouldn't it be great if Singaporeans were not all about the money, accolades and KPIs, which are all important ONLY if there is a COMMON MORAL ANCHOR holding us together where we learn to EMPATHISE, IDENTITY AND care for one another? I dare say that getting that anchor right is tantamount to setting the LONG TERM FRAMEWORK where we build the foundations of lasting wellbeing for our nation because we leave no one behind and success does not turn us into self centred, self absorbed and distant individuals just existing to get the best individual deal for ourselves? Unrealistic? Well, you can't stop one Singaporean who has struggled all his life to feel that he belongs here, from praying and hoping that it may come true, even if it sounds idealistic. #oneunitedpeople #onesingapore #nationaldaysingapore #matthewqueksingapore #dream #nationhood #belonging #identity

Racial harmony comes from acknowledging and accepting conflicts that naturally arise from a ground of diversity. When we hold a larger perspective within any shared space with care, long enough for conflicts to transform, we bring harmony. Genuine harmony cannot come from our judgment of conflicts nor our discomfort around them. It cannot happen when we move too swiftly to defuse conflict, out of fear or pain. Without harmony, there can be no united spirit. On this day in 1963, the Malaysian Federation was formed; it is distinct from the Independence Day celebrated on August 31st. In 2010, September 16th was declared a public holiday for the nation to foster the 1Malaysia spirit. May we keep learning how to hold space for deep growth, so that genuine harmony does not become a pipe dream we fight towards; fighting for harmony defeats harmony. May we enable genuine safe spaces for crucial transformational dialogues to take place. May we grow our emotional intelligence collectively and enjoy the unity that comes from a 1Malaysia harmony. And may this little article bring fresh perspective for an honest assessment of how safe are your safe spaces, and ideas to have it work for you. https://lnkd.in/g3KshnsH Happy Anniversary Malaysia! #EBX #FutureOfWork #CulturalIntelligence

This May, RMI proudly celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. RMI's diverse team of 700 has roots from around the world, including China, India, and the Pacific islands -- and our work touches all of those regions too. As we honor the contributions of our colleagues, we recognize the climate-related challenges faced by those across the Asia- Pacific region. With temperatures in parts of Asia rising twice as fast as the global average and the Asia-Pacific region experiencing the highest proportion of weather-related disasters over the past decade, the need for a clean energy transition is urgent. We are excited to share stories from our Asian and AAPI team members, highlighting how their cultural backgrounds shape their impactful work at RMI. Why We Celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month in May This May, we take a moment to recognize the incredible contributions of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPI) to the fabric of the United States. But why May? The story goes back to 1978 when Congressman Frank Horton proposed a week in May to celebrate Asian/Pacific American heritage. Over a decade later, Congress permanently designated May as AANHPI Heritage Month. The specific dates of May 7th and 10th hold historical significance: » May 7, 1843: The arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the U.S. » May 10, 1869: The completion of the Transcontinental Railroad, largely built by Chinese laborers. These events highlight the long and rich history of AANHPI communities in America. Did you know about the historical significance of May 7th and 10th? Share your favorite facts about AANHPI heritage in the comments below! #AANHPIHeritageMonth #Diversityandinclusion #USAHeroes #bethechangeHR #HR #humanresources #hrconsulting

Improving Substance Use Care | Digital Health | Mental Health advocate | Diversity, Equity & Inclusion | Strategic Sales
The American Addiction Centers recently reported that despite lower substance abuse rates, there's a hidden crisis among Asian Americans... Here’s what you need to know📊 🔍 Alarming Treatment Gap ▪Only 3.3% of Asian Americans needing substance abuse treatment receive it, compared to 11.1% of the general population Why the Gap? ▪ Cultural barriers, language issues, and stigma around SUD are key factors Interesting Subgroup Differences ▪ Drinking: Japanese Americans (13.1%) vs. Chinese Americans (9.1%) ▪ Heavy Drinking: Korean Americans (3.5%) vs. Chinese Americans (1.2%) ▪ Marijuana Use: Korean Americans (9.2%) vs. Chinese Americans (2.9%) By delaying seeking help, severe consequences arise, often leading to arrest, hospitalization, or homelessness, making intervention a forced necessity. We must continue to raise awareness and improve access to culturally sensitive treatment options for all. 📌 https://lnkd.in/eMeGCBFB #SubstanceAbuseAwareness #AsianAmericanHealth #HealthEquity #EmployeeBenefits #WorkplaceWellness #DiversityInclusion #BreakingBarriers
May is Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month—a time of commemoration that not only highlights the rich traditions and contributions of these communities but also underscores the ongoing challenges they face in achieving equitable health and wellness. May is coming to an end, but it's imperative that we continue to support initiatives that enhance cultural understanding, promote health equity, and advocate for systemic changes year-round. Let's continue to foster and strengthen partnerships with Pacific and Asian American communities. Building and maintaining strong connections with local leaders, communities, and organizations will help amplify voices and address specific needs. By working together, we can cultivate a more inclusive society that recognizes and values the contributions of all its members!
