As your company scales, so should your technology. You don't have to settle for disconnected systems with scattered data. Patrick Kuryla, Sr. Specifications Manager at Bob Evans Farms, Inc., recognized their need for a spec-driven PLM for R&D, NPD, packaging management, and sustainability efforts. With a traditional PLM, companies miss out on the granular level of data needed for packaging and sustainability, as well as the option to integrate with other systems. Learn more about the transformation Bob Evans Farms is experiencing by switching to a data platform made for today's complexities. 🔎 #ICYMI: A recent article on engineering.com features a great, concise overview of our recent study with Forrester, 'Transform Product Sustainability Into Performance Initiatives With Product Lifecycle Intelligence'. 📌 As the article notes, our work with Forrester served to highlight how maturity impacts manufacturers’ ability to incorporate sustainability into PLM. It pinpoints 5 key areas manufacturers anticipate will significantly affect their products, prioritizing regulatory compliance, growth and sustainability: 1️⃣ Evolving customer expectations 2️⃣ Growing emphasis on advancing a circular economy 3️⃣ Heightened demand for transparency in supply chains 4️⃣ Economic constraints 5️⃣ Challenges related to supply chain shortages 🤔 It also calls attention to how those manufacturers can elevate their PLM practices, recommending 4 key steps: ✅ First, it is about “modernizing product innovation processes and platforms” to empower designers with product lifecycle intelligence ✅ Then, it is about “reclassifying sustainability as a performance initiative” to drive revenue and margin growth ✅ And in doing so, “developing a business case for product lifecycle intelligence” to quantify its impact on competitiveness, time to market, and pricing ✅ While “ensuring consistent enterprise-level ESG data” to streamline innovation and regulatory reporting processes ⬇ You can glean more actionable insights in the full article at the link below: https://lnkd.in/ehyJmqXa #PLM #sustainability #manufacturing #supplychains

Have we been chasing the illusion of a single, integrated system that contains all product digital thread data? For a long time, the goal has been to create “a single source of truth for product data” and PLM was the solution we believed would get us there. It was a good direction to follow, but could we ever really get there? And should have expected to? Now, three things have become clear from our research and our conversations with manufacturers: 1️⃣ Developing and maintaining a holistic, integrated digital thread is still an important goal and incredibly valuable to the business 2️⃣ There are a variety of enterprise systems and tools required to design and develop a product, and these solutions contain some portion of a product’s digital thread data 3️⃣ The digital thread must expand further into the product lifecycle, including manufacturing, operations, and service Given this, it’s time to consider whether to evolve PLM’s role from a single source of truth to a solution that orchestrates the digital thread instead of capturing it. We explored this idea and discussed it with some engineering and manufacturing leaders to get their perspective. We look forward to hearing your thoughts, as well. Researching digital transformation across the product digital thread for manufacturing and industrial companies
It's a rain Saturday, what better time to talk about the future role of PLM to support the digital thread? I've heard a lot of really good conversation about what comes next for PLM and I wanted to talk about what can be done today. I recently presented on digital thread integration and the value of centralizing information. But I think we all, as an industry, know that PLM will never hold the entire digital thread. Even with the most comprehensive PLM / product innovation platform there will be specialty, best-in-class tools required that have their own processes and data. Not to mention that there are obviously downstream systems in manufacturing, operations, and service that capture vital digital thread data. This eBook explores another, complementary approach of using PLM to orchestrate product-related processes and data instead of capturing it all. Instead of centralizing everything, it coordinates digital thread processes and data. There is still a place for integration and centralization, but the approach can be more selective than a blind pursuit of centralizing everything. As one of the manufacturers I interviewed for the eBook reminds us, "PLM is a process, not a system." I'm sure you will have opinions. I want to thank Duro for supporting the research.

Researching the business value of Digital Transformation in Manufacturing and Operations, and what it takes in people, process, and technology
Coordination for data flows and digital threads of product data is crucial - is this a more pragmatic role for PLM than being a "single source of truth"? Read Jim Brown's new report for a new view of #digitalthread and #PLM's place in creating it. As a manufacturing and supply chain operations maven, I concur that these areas have important data for the product lifecycle that may be best kept in their own systems.

Well, today let me share something really interesting with all of you! Have you ever thought about why a very simple thing gets so important to you? The secret lies in the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). PLM is an ultimate guide that tells a product where to go. It starts from the very first concept, followed through development, market introduction, and growth, and then finally it declines or is discontinued. Just imagine, PLM supports all product stages from design to production, distribution, and after-sale service. It ensures the product will satisfy market demand by staying competitive and profitable throughout its lifecycle. So that means the next time you enjoy a brilliantly designed gadget or a "must-have," it's all possible through a good PLM process! 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞: Data analytics identify market trends, customer preferences, and potential design improvements. Ensures products meet consumer needs and stand out in the marketplace. 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞: Data from production lines were analyzed to optimize processes. Reduces waste and improves product quality. 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬: Continuous monitoring of product performance, customer feedback, and market conditions. Early detection of issues and implementation of corrective measures. Predictive analytics foresee potential defects or failures. Enables preemptive action to avoid costly recalls or customer dissatisfaction. Throughout the product lifecycle, data-driven insights enable companies to make informed decisions, from initial development to end-of-life strategies. This ensures efficient resource allocation, better risk management, and sustained product performance in the market. Ultimately, leveraging Big Data in PLM not only helps in identifying and addressing management gaps but also enhances overall product longevity and profitability. #productlifecyclemanagement #productdevelopment #bigdata #dataanalytics #maukaa #technology
