☀ Two are better than one. Ready for round 4? 🧩 Summer is calling for the next puzzle and, of course, relaxation - perhaps even in one of Europe's most beautiful port cities. 🌊🚢 This week we have prepared a Double Puzzle for you. We are looking for European cities whose seaports have a special significance for Roland. 👉 Here's how it works: 🔹 Put the letters of the individual words in the correct order. 🔹 Transfer the letters from the numbered fields to the numbered fields below. 🔹 At the end, the letters or words form a solution set. Have fun with the puzzle! 🧠✏️ Do you have the solution? Share your results in the comments. 💬 We are looking forward to your feedback. The solution will follow next week. Visit Scotland will close all of its 25 tourist information centres by 2026. This comes as no surprise in an age where tourists expect to plan, organise and book their trips and visits anytime, from anywhere, using digital devices. But destinations that abolish, or want to complement, their physical tourist offices, must embrace a smart digital strategy that allows them to capture and retain the attention of (prospective) visitors, inspire and inform them, allow them to plan and book, and -very importantly- provide them with seamless information, content and experiences when on location. Relevant technology can help achieve all of this. It allows destinations to engage with their visitors in completely new ways, to provide truly comprehensive information, and to learn about visitor trends and preferences through clever data analytics. kompaio https://lnkd.in/eUGU3JkC

My family and I moved back to the US in 2019, after living in Germany for 4 years. I was in the middle of a career transition at the time, as was my wife. We actually wanted to stay in Germany, but the particular set of circumstances that we were over there under made it difficult to stay at that point, so we opted to come back to the US, and figure out things from there. From a purely career standpoint, the transitions have been well worth the effort. We both work for some great companies, and enjoy what we do. But living in another country fundamentally changes you, and many of the other aspects of being back "home" are complex, and not so clear cut. Some of the differences are immediate and obvious. Others take time to percolate in the background, process, and discover. We've been back in the US for 4 years, and we've started becoming aware of those deeper, slow burning perspective shifts that weren't obvious at first. It's not that there aren't problems elsewhere. Germany certainly has issues. But the way in which they face their problems is instructive, and contrasts with some of the ways we face our problems. Especially educational is seeing how other cultures are *structurally* different from ours: different assumptions, different values, different ways of dealing with X or Y. The things that used to be invisible- "just the way things are"- are now quite clearly a cultural point of view. With that as the backdrop, this does a really good job of taking a look at some of those systemic things that we've begun to really notice since being back. https://lnkd.in/eHjCDcH9

New paper with Matan Singer: "A Scale for Describing People’s Mobility Status" We introduce and test a visual analogue scale (VAS) to measure to what extent people experience difficulties in reaching destinations (N=180). Known-group analyses showed that respondents who are younger, without vehicle access, or in need of a walking aid, had significantly worse VAS scores. Regression analysis with reported mobility problems as dependent variables, showed that VAS replaced car availability as the sole significant explanatory variable. Employing a reverse regression analysis, we found that distinct mobility problems explain more than half of the variance in VAS (R2=0.528). These results suggests that, after further testing, a VAS can be generate rich insights in a range of studies, including travel behavior surveys, as well as ex post evaluations of transport interventions.
