TBB, or The Team Bradley Bear Foundation, was created in honor of Bradley Cassavant, who lost his life to a rare brain tumor at the young age of 13 months. What did you do on your lunch break? It’s better to give than receive! A few fun facts about O+blood: Donating: O+ donors can donate blood to patients with any positive blood type or O+ blood. Whole blood is the most needed donation for O+ donors. O+ blood is also ideal for Super Reds donations, which provide patients with twice as many red blood cells. Receiving: O+ donors can only receive blood from O+ and O- donors. Special considerations: O+ donors who are CMV negative are known as Heroes for Babies at the Red Cross because their blood is the safest for transfusions for immune deficient newborns. I am one those Heroes and have done a direct donation for a preemie before!

In just a few short weeks I’ve raised $2,300 for LLS with a goal to raise $10,000 before Light The Night on October 26th. While this might seem like just a small piece of the $1.7 billion LLS has invested in cancer research, my goal has the potential to provide an impact in multiple ways. What we raise in the next few days can make a year-long impact for blood cancer patients struggling with the cost of cancer. Here is how your donation has the potential to make a difference: $500 helps fund one week of LLS-sponsored group support for families dealing with blood cancer treatment. $1000 provides financial assistance for non-medical expenses, including rent or mortgage, utilities, dependent care, food, and car repairs, related to treatment to a pediatric or young adult patient through our Urgent Need Program. $2,500 helps fund the cost of nurses providing patients and parents/caregivers with clinical trial search navigation and support through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Clinical Trial Support Center.
