Dear HR Colleagues, Supervisors, and Line Managers I would like to emphasise the importance of treating interns with the same respect and professionalism that you extend to your regular employees. Just because a person is an intern in your organisation does not mean you have the right to mistreat them in any manner that pleases you. Treat Interns as Counterparts, Not Children: Interns are not children, and they should not be treated as such. Your role as a supervisor or manager is to guide them and share your experience in the respective field, not to parent them. Understand that interns are here to learn and grow, and they deserve to be treated as valuable members of the team. Provide a Positive and Supportive Environment: Interns should be given the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the organisation and to develop their skills and knowledge. Provide them with clear expectations, constructive feedback, and the resources they need to succeed. Foster an environment of mutual respect and collaboration, where interns feel valued and supported. Remember, the way you treat your interns reflects not only on your own professionalism but also on the overall culture and reputation of your organisation. Let's work together to ensure that all interns have a positive and enriching experience during their internship journey.

Last week we bid farewell to the 2024 cohort of Yes Interns. These interns have an amazing impact on the teams they worked in. BDO has been a proud support of the YES program since 2021 demonstrating our commitment to support youth unemployment and nurturing future talent. The 12-month internship program is designed to provide young people with essential work experience, skills development, and opportunities for career progression. Each year a number of interns are absorbed into permanent roles, and we were able to offer 28 of the 37 interns into a permanent role with BDO. We wish all our interns well in their ongoing career experiences as they build their CV of skills and opportunities. #ElevatingPeople #ElevatingBusiness #ElevatingSociety
