Hong Kong is a leading green and sustainable finance hub in Asia. During the 2024 #HongKongGreenWeek – Finance Stream, industry stakeholders from across Asia discussed the need for greater mobilisation of green finance to support the scaling of sustainable projects and ventures to adapt to and mitigate climate change.   Hong Kong financial regulators have implemented various initiatives to promote sustainable finance and support the transition to a low-carbon economy. For example, the Government launched the Green and Sustainable Finance Grant Scheme (GSF Grant Scheme) in 2021, to provide subsidies to issuers of green and sustainable bonds and loans in Hong Kong for relevant issuance costs, including the costs for obtaining third-party accreditation from external sustainability reviewers. In its latest 2024-25 Budget, the Government proposed to extend the GSF Grant Scheme by three years to 2027.   The GSF Grant Scheme has so far benefited more than 360 green and sustainable debt instruments issued in Hong Kong, with a total underlying volume of over US$100 billion. New report by UN ESCAP calls on governments and regulators to take 10 practical actions to bridge Asia- Pacific's sustainable finance gap.
