Laser deposition brazing at a laser researcher conference? The Stuttgart Laser Days 2024 are a significant conference in the field of photonics and laser technology, with a clear focus on beam sources. I have great respect for presenting at an event with such a specific focus, as my topic is the application of laser technology. My presentation will cover the manufacturing of industrial plain bearings using laser technology. A particular highlight is a hybrid bearing that combines bronze and tin. This innovative method significantly enhances the performance and lifespan of the bearings. Despite my preparation, I wonder how my presentation will be received. Will attendees, primarily interested in the latest developments in beam source technology, also show interest in practical applications like the manufacturing of plain bearings? I hope that the practical and industrial benefits achieved through the use of laser technology will capture the participants' interest. Especially the hybrid bearing, which combines the advantages of bronze and tin, could be intriguing for many and lead to engaging discussions.

'3D integration enabling ultra-low noise isolator-free lasers in silicon photonics' by invited speaker Chao Xiang, Assistant Professor at The University of Hong Kong. We report that, using 3D integration we can effectively combine the high-performance lasers with ultra-low-loss photonic integrated circuits. This technology resulted in Hertz-linewidth lasers with strong resistance to downstream feedbacks. These compact #lasers provide a small form factor and offer mass production potential. 💡 Our work at #FBH extends GaAs-based lasers’ emission range, enabling precise wavelengths for various quantum applications. Pleasant visit a couple of weeks ago at Delft University of Technology, TU Delft | Applied Sciences, meeting the group of Prof. Mazhar Ali, where a Nanosurf #FlexAFM is in use in a Jacomex #glovebox, for analysis of 2D quantum materials used for building innovative superconducting devices based on Prof. Ali’s and his team’s discovery (https://lnkd.in/e9s8n8mX) of the one-way superconductor (https://lnkd.in/eM6TX5XV), before their paper thought to be impossible! Houssam and Michiel seem quite happy of their powerful #FlexAFM, sitting inside the glovebox, between themselves and the gloves.
