Steam pipe sizing is an important consideration in the design and operation of steam systems. Improper sizing reduces energy efficiency, increase costs and hamper the process. The size of the pipe depends on several factors, including the amount of steam being generated, the distance the steam needs to travel, and the pressure and temperature of the steam. To learn more about the importance of steam pipe sizing and how it is done, reach out to our steam specialists. Final Call: Tonight! The RSES Member Webinar series continues with HVACR System Design Part 1 - Load Calculation, presented by Brynn Cooksey, CEM, CMS, RCT. Join us for part 1 of a two-part webinar series on HVACR System design. Part 1 will focus on calculating building shell heat loss/heat gain; conductive heat loss; convective heat loss; and the benefits of doing load calculations. After attending this webinar, attendees will be able to: • Determine why we should be doing load calcs; • Define basic energy movement; • Discuss building materials; • Preform heat transfer equations; • Understand the building shell and its impact on load; and • Learn recommendations for teaching techs load calcs. The number one most overlooked aspect in building is Mother Nature. It’s too easy to focus on schedule, revised drawings, your work force, equipment, subs, delivery schedules, submitals, RFI’s this list goes on. Knowing what you're up against in solar development comes down to knowing how your site will react in adverse weather and rapidly changing weather patterns across all four seasons. Your race to start on an aggressive schedule often times can be a race to stabilize and contain. Not knowing these issues ahead of time leads to down time and delays and costly changes. Do you want to know what you're getting into on your freshly permitted project? If the answer is “yes”, call us and let’s discuss what you can expect.

In this Safety Alert from 2016, CROSS outlines concerns about some structural aspects of roof mounted PV and solar thermal panels. Reports have been received of problems with installations including non-compliance with Building Regulations, quality of workmanship, and damage to existing roofs. https://lnkd.in/eabJd2Ae Recommendations are given for installation on new roofs and on existing roofs. Who should read this? Architects and designers, building control officers, PV and solar thermal panel providers/installers, civil and structural engineers working for installers and operating in the domestic market, together with all who are engaged in the installation or maintenance of such panels. Note: this Safety Alert was published by SCOSS (Standing Committee on Structural Safety). Since March 2021, SCOSS is integrated under the name Collaborative Reporting for Safer Structures (CROSS).

It's good to learn something in energy topic. [Building Controls VI: When to Use Each Response] Course Description: The purpose of this course is to define proportional control responses along with investigating how integral and derivatives affect proportional control responses. We’ll also spend some time explaining the appropriate use of each control response. Learning Objectives: At the completion of this course, you will be able to: ● Understand how tuning the three terms in a P-I-D response adjust the control for particular needs ● Explain why floating response is more appropriate for fast responding systems ● Identify specific uses for each type of response

Designers and contractors need to use all the information at their disposal to create a metal roof that's effective and long-lasting. This information includes the major criteria related to wind uplift engineering, such as wind speed maps, risk categories, building characteristics, and more. With the right knowledge, designers and contractors can use this information for practical application on their metal roofing projects. On today's Q&A Monday, and in the final installment in our wind uplift video series, Jeff Hock from the Sheffield Metals Technical department joins Thad Barnette to talk about what major criteria affect wind uplift engineering and how to translate this information into actionable steps for your metal roofing project.
