The progress of trans and non-binary rights in the UK has been a story of resilience and gradual progress. From the early struggles highlighted by the 1970 Corbett v Corbett case, which restricted legal gender changes, to the landmark Goodwin v United Kingdom case in 2002 that spurred significant legal reforms, the fight for recognition has been challenging. The Gender Recognition Act of 2004 was a pivotal moment, granting trans individuals the right to legally change their gender. In recent years, milestones such as the first Trans Pride in Brighton in 2013 and the inclusion of gender identity in the 2021 census have marked significant strides towards inclusivity. However, challenges persist, particularly for non-binary individuals who continue to seek full legal recognition and equality. This journey underscores the importance of continued advocacy and awareness to build a more inclusive society for all gender identities.

Dear connections, Iam pleased to share the publication of my paper titled "An Analysis of Desirability of Uniform Civil Code in the Context of India’s Religious Personal Laws and Gender Equality" published at IJLSI - International journal of Legal science and innovation. This article will look at the complex relationship between gender equality and the UCC, including its historical context, challenges, opportunities, and possible future paths. Many aspects were examined such as the rational behind implementing it and the necessity of those laws to govern citizens and other aspects which are still common in some castes and groups. If possible give it a read and looking forward for valuable feedback. Quick Link: <https://lnkd.in/ghXKJGhd>

Learning and Comprehending the topic "Gender Norms and Harmful Traditional Practices in Ethiopia". Through this session, I got an insight on Female Genital Mutilation(FGM), child marriage and role of men and every individual in promoting gender equality. Also being a person of Medical Fraternity,I could relate how FGM in particular affects a womanhood in terms of physical, mental and psychological aspects. Although it has been outlaw in policies and legal papersheets; still the practice is being followed in some regions of the world. I believe education, awareness, cultural intervention and strict implementations of laws should be done to gradually decline the deeply rooted practices.

Two major research partnerships hosted by IDS are producing much needed insights on the battle for gender rights, and examining when and how gender justice defenders and women’s rights struggles have been successful, despite organised backlash pushing against them. #CounteringBacklash is a 6yr programme to create knowledge of the push to reverse rights for women and LGBTQ+ & identify how women’s rights organisations & gender justice defenders can counter backlash and address the erosion of gender justice objectives within development. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/gAjx4afv Focusing on when, how, and why do women’s power struggles do retain power & sustain gains amid backlash, ‘Sustaining Power: Women’s Struggles against contemporary backlash in South Asia’ (SuPWR) is a 5yr project working in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan. Trigger warning... "There are only two genders. Find God.” “I’m not mentally ill.” “I was born male, I’m a man. You don’t get to pick your gender.” These are some of the responses Sydney McNeill, our Director of JEDI Strategy has come across from when AndHumanity, Inclusive Marketing Agency has done research/community engagement work for our clients. For International Non-Binary People’s Day, Sydney explains what they would like to say to these respondents if they were sitting right in front of them. Read this insightful article here: https://lnkd.in/gcDB5ezv ID: A graphic for International Non-Binary People's Day. It features four individuals standing together against a dark green background. They are all looking confidently forward. Each person has a distinct style and expression, showcasing diversity within the non-binary community. The text "International Non-Binary People’s Day" is prominently displayed in a modern, white font on a light brown geometric shape in the foreground, giving the image a contemporary and inclusive feel. #JEDI #EDI #DEI #DEIA #InclusiveMarketing #InclusiveCommunications #InclusiveBranding #InclusiveAdvertising #InclusiveResearch #InclusionMatters #InclusiveLanguage #WordsMatter #InternationalNonBinaryPeoplesDay

Married women in Pakistan may face various challenges, including societal expectations regarding their roles, limited access to education and employment opportunities, and sometimes, lack of autonomy within the household. Additionally, issues such as domestic violence, unequal distribution of household responsibilities, and financial constraints can further exacerbate the difficulties faced by married women. However, it's essential to note that experiences can vary widely based on factors such as socio-economic status, education level, and geographical location. Efforts are being made to address these challenges through advocacy, legislation, and community initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality and women's rights.

Did you know ❓it will take 286 years to achieve gender equality at the current pace (UN)? Here's why... According to the UN, at the current rate of progress, it will take a staggering 286 years to achieve gender equality. The #WorldEconomicForum estimates an additional 132 years to close the global gender gap. Alarmingly🚨, #Iraq is considering a bill that would lower the minimum marriage age for girls from 18 to 9, a move that would undoubtedly exacerbate this disparity. The UN's assessment that it could take 300 years❗ to eliminate #childmarriage is a sobering reality. Outdated religious beliefs continue to be a significant barrier to gender equality and the well-being of young girls worldwide🌐, in issues like inheritance laws and abortion rights. The Taliban's suppression of women's education is one of the many deeply troubling examples of using religion as a pretext to control women's lives. What are your thoughts? on why #Iceland and other Nordic countries remain most gender equal countries.

I have completed the course at UN Women training center "Gender Concepts to get Started; International Frameworks for Gender Equality; and Promoting Gender Equality throughout the UN System". This course aims to develop and/or strengthen awareness and understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment as a first step towards behavioral change and the integration of a gender perspective into everyday work for all UN staff at headquarters, regional and country levels. It provides an introduction to the concepts, international framework, and methods for working toward gender equality and women’s empowerment. It also offers users the opportunity to make links between gender and specific thematic areas such as work; education; political participation; emergencies; peace and security; sexual and reproductive health; sexual and gender diversity and human rights; and violence against women. https://lnkd.in/dHQdbp4N
